I have here my new to me CF-19 Mk3, its got built in GPS, I also have a Mk2 that has built in wwan with Novatel EU870D, I see somewhere that the Mk3 had a Qualcomm Gobi 1000, so question is is the Qualcomm Gobi 1000 better than the Novatel EU870D or shall I just fit the Novatel ?

I want to upgrade the mem to 8Gb, I know that XP will only see just over 3Gb but I want to do this now then its done if ever I change the OS, I was looking for:

    2x PC2-6400 4GB 800MHz DDR2

but they are quite expensive, I see that:

    2x PC3-10600 4GB 1333Mhz DDR3

is a lot cheaper, question is will it run with DDR3 or is it not compatible ?

Last question, this laptop has a bios password, dont worry I know the password and can access the bios, but what I would like to do is switch it off so I can get into the bios without having to put the password in ?

    Thanks

there is no way to use DDR3 DIMMs into a DDR2 MB.

I'd suggest keeping an eye out for a cheap Gobi 2000, can find used ones for around $30 sometimes.

DDR3 is not compatible as Gear6 says. I found some Dell 4GB DDR2-6400 sticks for about $60 each that work great.

Just use the BIOS password change function to set it to blank, or are you asking something else?

Thanks for the info, so whats the advantage of the Gobi 2000 over the Novatel EU870D ?
When you say set it to blank, just go to change password and then put nothing in ???

    Thanks

Just don't do what one of our members did and in the end got locked out of the BIOS for good.

    CDMA band.
I think there is no sense to upgrade. Of course if you already have Gobi 2000 (there is Gobi 2000 in MK3, not Gobi 1000) too, you may test what you like more :)
