according to the model # on my MK6, the 7th digit is an X but I have the sim card slot on the back and the wings on the the edge of the display where the antenna would be. How can I confirm whether or not it has the internal verizon WWAN ?
    Thanks

If there is modem - you have internal WWAN :)))

Thanks for the reply. I removed the cover and there is an MC775 Verizon modem and I also noticed that the sticker on the bottom of the unit indicating the model # does not match the # in the Bios. The 7th digit in the BIOS is an X and the 7th digit on the STICKER is a V. This is a brand new unit. Is it common for Panasonic to modify a new base unit and update the model # ?

that's curios if it's coming directly from Panasonic. maybe it was a canceled order for a unit w/o WWAN, and they 'forgot' to reflash the BIOS ?

Is it common for Panasonic to modify a new base unit & update the model?

As far as I know, Panasonic only build Base Models on the production line.

Any model changes take place in a Panasonic Rework Facility. So, as an example, a base model has GPS installed & the white sticker is added & the Bios information changed to reflect the new model number, simple. :)

Another example, a customer orders GPS & WWAN, it will be a base model that is being modified, not a model already equipped with GPS & add WWAN or equipped with WWAN & add GPS.

The bottom cover on a base unit should have a model number & bar code printed onto the cover, a reworked base unit will have a sticker containing the New model number with the bar code printed on the sticker & nothing printed onto the base cover because the cover is replaced which removes the original model number.

Does sound like someone has dropped a boo-boo....but there is nothing stopping an authorised reseller adding OEM parts at the point of distribution & throwing everything into confusion. :)

You could try peeling off the sticker but that may damage it, if it covers another model number they have either changed production methods or it's been modified by someone other than the OEM Rework Facility.

A couple years ago I had one with 2 stickers on it , just use a hair dryer and it comes off very easy. The old model number was standard keyboard and non wireless and the new model number showed Rubber Backlit keyboard and wireless (something else too...forgot). I can not remember for sure but I think it had a sticker on the box that said "Refurbished by Panasonic" I think that it was Rod that said when Panasonic/Heartland does these upgrades they change the sticker but not sure. I never checked the BIOS at that time to see if that was changed to, never thought of it.

    Roger that TaN.

I may do a u-turn on the "white sticker" due to it being a CF-19....defo, 100% that all Cf-29's & early model CF-30's never had a "white sticker" on the new production line base models.

TaN's comments regarding "Refurbished by Panasonic" rings a bell....you may be able to tell from the serial number if the unit has been through the Panasonic Rework Facility because they change the serial number to differentiate it from production models....so you don't know what has been changed by looking at the serial number but you do know it's not a production line model, again, that checks out on Cf-29's & CF-30 models.
