CF-19R and LTE4G (Verizon) Modem - MC7750

Hello!

I have (2) brand new Sierra Wireless MC7750 LTE 4G modems (Verizon network) that Heartland just shipped over to me.

I have (2) CF-19RHRAX1M Toughbooks that I installed these modems to. I hooked up the antennas. There is no dip switches. These are GOBI 4000 modems. I have visited the Carrier Software page over at Panasonic and installed the following files:

MC7750_VZAccess_Manager_7-7-1-12-2763b.zip [zip, 27mb]
MC7750_QMIDriverPackage_Build3644_Win7.zip [zip, 30mb]
MC7750_03.05.10.9.zip [zip, 21mb]

The OS is Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. All MS updates and all the Panasonic drivers are already installed.

The only thing I can think to try is to re-install the wireless switch utility.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I have an e-mail into Heartland as well (gag).

I just successfully completed this process on a CF-19R (Mark IV) with a MC7750 4G LTE Modem.

 

You used a bios tool? Is there a optional tool kit menu in your bios? If so you should see the WWAN there and set the value to the right com-port number.

I did upgrade my mk5 to a Gobi 5000, but as I had a Sony Ericsson before, I just uninstalled all the software and installed the Panasonic/Sierra software. Didn't go without a hitch, but it's working pretty decent now.

 

Keep in mind that the MK4's TECHNICALLY don't work with the 4G LTE chips. Although, having owned one it works, BUT, BUT - they do NOT work if your computer ever goes to sleep. They never resume correctly and you'll have to reboot the whole computer. I tested this theory at the time with an MC7725 (ATT 4G LTE chip).

FWIW, the MC7700 works just fine in my CF-19 mk3 ... sometimes the watcher doesn't display the connection properly (freezes at "connecting..." but connectivity is fine)

I also have a Novatel e371 that I've never gotten to work properly but it's even harder to find proper software for Novatel than for Sierra Wireless. No idea why there's so much proprietary-ness (specific watcher for specific card for specific carrier) and secrecy ("we don't support x, contact your distributor for more info")

 

I hear ya Rob. Fortunately this has not been a problem for my department (Urban EMS System), as we do not allow the Toughbook to go to sleep since it's usually in a mobile docking station or connected AC power brick.

It's odd, because Heartland gave me the part number and informed me it was "compatible" with the CF-19R's.

My next project which I'll probably write up in a separate thread is to get the Lenovo Gobi 4000 (MC7750) modem to work in the CF-19R. So far I have 1 out of 4 of the drivers loading correctly. Work in progress trying to document a process for others to use.

I'm having some issues getting the driver to install for my MC7700.
I don't know if I messed up on the dip switch settings or what.
Can you offer any pointers?
I'm also on a mk3 CF-19 running windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

What is the error you get? The software won't install? Or the installed software isn't working properly?

 

I was just getting a "Driver install failed"
I was able to resolve it when I stopped being lazy and went in and manually installed the driver the long way Through the "browse my computer" then "let me pick."
Doing the "search for driver software in this location" method didn't work and frustrated me for a little while.
Just got my SIM and going to try it out as soon as I get a chance. I'll update after that.

 

Haha, that was it for me as well.
But my experience is really good. The speeds are much more consistent at 25/5 but much more important is that the coverage is much better due to 800/900MHz bands that are being used for 3.9G instead of 2100/2500MHz that is being used here for 3G

 

To complicate things, I am using a Straight Talk prepaid wireless AT&T SIM.
But it works! MC7700 is working well.
However, the aircard watcher says that it is "connecting" even though it is actually connected. Thisn caused me to beat my head into the wall without cause several times.

For some reason speedtest.net is throttled. So I went to the competition thinking it could be more accurate.

 

I must say, now that it's actually working, I'm surprised at the fact I got it to work with my configuration.
I expected that I had wasted the money I spent on the MC7700 and the $45 I spent on the Straight Talk SIM and plan.
I'm ready to do a happy dance right here!

 

Uncheck "Allow to disable this device to save power" (or something like that) in Device manager.
2G, 3G, 4G, 5.... they are same for laptop )

 

After a few tries of putting it to sleep and hibernation, I only had one issue with reconnecting. When I closed and restarted the Sierra Watcher, it connected just fine. It took a minute, but there were no issues.

 

Which Sim/plan did you use? I see phone and tablet Sims from Them

 

I chose the basic plan with unlimited data after I ordered this sim:
Straight Talk Site Session Expired

They have T-Mobile sims available as well, but AT&T has better coverage where I need it.
