Is the upgrading of the SSD something that can be easily done or are there caveats and special equipment needed? Is that also the case for adding a bridge battery for a model not originally equipped with it?

Personally, I wouldn't open the CF-20. You 'll probably lose also your 3 year warranty period. Check first some other options like using the media expansion slots. You have a micro SD and an ordinary SD card slot. If you buy some big SD cards, then you can have a great increase of space. Another option is to re-install the OS without using a recovery partition. This will free up even more space. For the second option, you'll need to store the recovery data in an external storage (DVDs or USB stick).

I understand the warranty and I was asking is it possible or do things make it not easy. If an expeienced technician can do it and it is field upgradable even if the warrantty is invalidated that is useful information to know. That was why I asked my question.

From the little information I could find, I came to this conclusion.
It is not as easy to upgrade a CF20 as it is to upgrade a CF19 or CF31.
It appears that the entire rear panel of the screen (tablet part) must be removed.

The rest of the question of easy or not becomes difficult to answer.
The answer depends on the skill and tools available to the person doing the upgrade.

I assume the drive is a solid state in a NGFF format. Easy to plug in another once you get to it.
I would think a bridge battery would be plug and play. BUT these are Toughbooks and who knows if they used a different BIOS for bridge battery equipped models.

Regarding the bridge battery, it is weird that your model doesn't have one. Check with the A1 key. It 'll tell you which batteries are available.

I guess no one has any real life experience with it yet. Thanks for all the input.

Hi all I have a CF-20 ( only a month now ) and still figuring things out. It has a 256GB SSD with WIN10, so when I look at the drive in computer management the partitions are
    250MB EFI Partition
    480MB recovery Partition
    20.5GB Primary Partition
217.57GB Boot, PageFile, Crash Dump, Primary Partition ( C Drive win10 Partition )
I know what all of the Partitions are for but the 20.5 GB

Its not visible in windows and am wondering is what its use for or is it just wasted space?

I'm sure it's a real recovery (image containing) partition, while 480MB one just boots to recovery app.

i have been to the big swap meet in san antonio a couple of times .
(not much of that activity in northern minnesnowta)
back then , there were absolutely none of the CF series to be seen .
one of the irons in the fire is SDR on my CF31 or CF19 .

    heh ...
years ago (!) i tried to run a CW and RTTY program on a trs80 with a swan 500cx as the transceiver .
neither one liked the other ... the '80 was a garbage generator and the rf from the swan gave the '80 fits .
i gave up on the project .

those are nice little machines ... a bit on the *odd* side but still a good toss-it-on-the-seat-and-go unit .
gave a friend one of them ... he runs his "back 80" in his atv checking his trail cams , offloading the data .
he also uses it for spread sheets (libre office) to keep track of his ammunition reloading information .

if the machine does not have an ssd in it , it is worth it to clone one ... quite a difference in performance .

how was the hollowstate parts/equipment situation at the meet ?
