    Hello from the UK...

I have just aquired a CF-25 toughy, and need to get a manual. There was one listed on Google (mobile-world.narod.ru/CF-25.pdf) but the link doesn't work, even though you can see a preview!

Is there somewhere I can download this manual? and get more info on the beast?
    Many Thanks
    Chuck

    Thanks Chaps, I now have the manuals;

It worked at last, it seems that on these type of sites one has to "Save target as..." where as here we just click on it to open!

Just the difference between us and the water ......

I have one I have been slowly putting back together. Had to buy another broke unit just to get the outer CD door. I haven't seen another toughbook with a GEL pack that thick either. Got to finish the SSD drive install, decide on OS. I got dock, cd, floppy, car charger for it also. I have considered getting one of the old RIM housing where the floppy/cd goes and see what can be modded into it.

I just have to be able to turn it on!!!

Waiting for a power supply, and if it runs up then go for another battery and try and use the Laptop for on-site analysis and testing.

What kind of testing are you going to be using it for?

it is for running Humidifier operating systems (DriSteem Corp) Not sure of protocols but It is just a straight forward network interface using the web browser./ I am hoping the CF-25 will work, save taking a decent laptop on site. Having trpouble loading Windows XP so am now trying win 2000

Ewwwww. That toughbook doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements for XP.

Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk

If you know what you are doing you could do a N-lite version of XP and it should work. I have cut it down to a 85 MB ISO before, and your can remove those restrictions on Minimum requirements.

You will have better luck with 2000

133 MHz or more Pentium microprocessor (or equivalent). Windows 2000 Professional supports up to two processors on a single computer.
64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum. 32 MB of RAM is the minimum supported. 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM is the maximum.
A 2 GB hard disk that has 650 MB of free space. If you are installing over a network, more free hard disk space is required.

What Mk do you have and how much RAM?

Blair, I think it's time to move this thread to the regular section if you don't mind.

I don't know what you budget is but you may want to at least move up to as CF-27 or 28. I was planning on running DSL linux on it. I have found this also. It is a OS based on windows but doesn't use windows source code. Still in testing. It uses windows drivers and uses wine. It is not Linux, whole new code that is open source. It may work on it. I think it is around 150 MB ISO. I have been reading up on it but haven't got to test it out yet. Support looks like it's community based like Linux is.

    Frontpage - ReactOS Website

I have been wanting to do some testing with it on the 25 and 27 I have to see how it runs on older hardware, but still give you more modern drivers and options than say windows 95 or 98. I think you can do some installing of programs on it just from source code.

    Wow!
I am well and truly chastised......

I did try 98 and 2000 on a newly formatted HDD but no luck - I might pass this on to a chap down the road and see if he has better luck! He is far more knowledgable than me on computers - I just press buttons, and hopefully try and improve things along the way.

All I really want to do with the CF-25 is to run the Browser for the Works software operating system and may-be run a vehicle diagnostics (one or the other or both) It just seems such a bomb proof laptop it is shame not to use it.

Ah! well back to the drawing board... or 'whatch-this-space' as they say

thank you so much one and all for your insight here.

One thing to keep in mind if the others wouldn't load is what size hard drive are you using? Can't remember the limit of the hard drive but I am thinking if it is bigger than 4 or 6 GB it won't work but just sticking the disk in there and loading the OS. That may be your problem. There are ways around it. I think that info is in the previous links I posted.
