My own fault, couldn't be bothered to reseat the switch so I tried to force it to pop back in, stupidly assuming it would, and well... the internal "tab" on the switch broke off. I still have the switch cover somewhere.
So, any ideas on fixing it? I was using a screwdriver to turn it on, but I fear that I'd be arrested for possession of an offensive weapon.

Ok... Can anybody tell me the length of the "tab" on the switch?
I'm going to attempt to fabricate a new "tab" for the switch.

You might try to find a parts machine on ebay and go from there.

I have one you can have, took a 27 apart for fun, and so have some extra parts. To confirm, your talking a the small plastic sliding switch on the case?

It's the small plastic tab that's physically on the switch to allow the outer plastic part of the switch to move.
I *think* it's fixed now, I put through a burning hot drawing pin in the outer plastic and made sure it was making contact on the switch inside where the plastic tab should be. Works fine, apart from I used a lot of hot melt glue so it sticks slightly. I shouldn't use so much of that stuff next time.
I'll upload photos as soon as I can get my hands on my dad's blackberry.
