Will the floppy or CD drives from a 27 fit the 29? I know they interchange with the 28 but not sure on the 29 and I do not have a 29 to try out, I am thinking so but needed confirmation.
    Thanks,
    Rick H...

    thanks cap!
I thought so but wanted to make sure before buying a 29 with only a floppy. I have plenty of 27 CD's so I know I will be covered.

    Michael,
Just clean the contacts, push it in hard a couple of times. If it still doesn't work look in F.A.Qs for info on how to upgrade to DVD for around $40 using your caddy.

Na, would rather hang on to them until all the 27's, 28's and 29's are gone.
Now floppies thats a different story!
Try what cap suggest, when I last reviewed that mod it did not sound all that difficult.

Thanks again for the advice cap mate but i suspect it is broken, in my computer is recognises the drive is there fine but when i put a disc in it tries to read it, makes some awful chugging noises then gives up. i might get the compressed air on it and see if it makes a difference but i image it's broken.

Also how do i remove the drive from the caddy, i can't even see where the drive ends and the caddy begins, it looks like it's all one item...

Try opening the drive and sliding the laser carefully the other way down the rails. Then close and retry...

You may also try taking the drive apart to see if everything is okay. I've had a few funky drives... Sometimes the ribbon cable on the inside slips out a little or there is crap in the connection.

Try taking the cover off and the one screw that releases the drive from the caddy... Take a look. You may want to take out the other screw to release the connector. Make sure everything is intact and fitting well... Then put it all back together and try it out....
