I would guess that it's driver related. Try re-installing the driver and check back. Maybe some of the heavy hitters will drop by and solve your problem.

This board is a mini-pci; it's not going to show up in BIOS. I'd guess one of two things: either your drivers are damaged/incorrect, or you don't have the MB Chipset drivers installed for your laptop. (Required for the PCI bridge before you can install PCI devices) Did you remove a working PCI card? Maybe a MODEM or NIC?

Wooh! It's a fools game... standin' in the cold rain... feelin' like a clown...

I'm trying not to sound like a rookie, but i'm not sure what mb chipset drivers i would need for PCI bridge. i had to manually add the hardware, i re-did it a couple times. I have attached some screenshots if that will help.

And yes i removed the factory modem card.

And was the factory MODEM card fully functional before you removed it?

    mnem
*I AM fully functional... I am programmed in multiple techiques. A broad variety of pleasuring...*

actually, I don't know. I have 2 cf-27s. when the atheros card didn't work I swapped the board the card plugs into with the other 27. same deal. with out a phone line at the house I'm not sure how to test the modem card, but If I can just put it back in, make sure its detected and available to test if its fully funtional, I will do that.

well, I put the modem card back in and it was recognized and installed. looked good. then I put the atheros in, and success. Even connected to a signal. BUT, put the screws back in and.... same problem. now the modem card wasn't recognized either. she's apaart again. there are 2 dip switches on the board that the atheros and modem plug into. I switched those around, I thought that was what got it going, but now nothing again......

It sounds to me like you've either got a wire pinched somewhere or something shorting against the case. (Just my first guess)

    mnem
Shorts!?!? I can't STAND shorts... I'm too fat for 'em, and they make me spark & stutter...

I'll check that out later, but I removed all the screws again, to swap the card, and same issue, so I don't think if its pinched its screw related.

Anybody here have a magic wand????

First up, welcome to NBR. You live where they found my car lit on fire a couple years ago.. Figured I should mention that. :p

Second, edit your first post and delete the /URL bit and brackets after your link. It'll become a live link and also undistort the thread.

Third, Try a driver from a different source; ftp://lizzi555.dyndns.org/Download/WLAN/Atheros/5_0_0_107/Atheros_5.0.0.107.exe

If that driver doesn't work, search around on that site for one that does.

Something isn't matching up though, because the card is supposed to be a 5213 card, and it's reading it as a 5001 chipset (Should be 5004 or higher). Might just be a bad driver though.

Thanx for the tip on my first post fix.

second, howd your car get out there?

3rd, If i load up the correct driver, will it be able to see the card. Cause now it doesnt even say found new hardware. i have to try to manually install it. should i have to manually install the hardware?

Somebody stole it, did doughnuts into other cars, then lit it on fire at the carpool lot off of 94.

If you currently have a driver installed, it may not say it found new hardware and may require a manual driver update.

So you even got windows to recognize that the card was installed? that's great news. I had heard that nothing other than the stock modem card could be recognized in the internal mini pci slot (i know, doesn't make much sense) and i tried to confirm that with the cf28 intel 10/100 card, and sure enough i couldn't see it in windows. the only other mini pci card i've got right now is the engenius card, which won't fit. i'm gonna have to get my hands on some other wifi cards..

and again, no luck. I must have messed something up. its stlii not recogning the card.

maybe it through a rod from oil starvation.

Does anyone know what the 2 dip switches do on the board the mini pci plugs into? could that be paart of the problem?

well here's what happened. not proud of this, (maybe I am). plugged it in, screwed around for waaaay too long. found the dipswitches, while the TB was running flipped some switches... voila it recognized and connected. I was connected to the internet through my phone-as-modem. tried to connect to a wireless connection, (while still connected to my phone-as-internet) then the old girl froze, couldn't power down, so I pulled the battery. powered back up, card wasn't installed, card wasn't recognized. that's where I'm at now.

what card did you have in there when you were doing that? was it the wifi card with the atheros chipset like your device manager screenshot shows? did windows find it when you were fiddling with the dipswitches? i'm gonna have to try moving them with it powered up!

its the atheros 5213a. i think i had installed the wrong hardware, couldnt choose the right one, didnt know which it was from the list. it did find it when i was moving the switches, but, after the crash, no matter what configuration i set it to, it wouldnt recognize it.

is it possible i fried it when i tried to connect to a wireless connection while connected to the internet via another source?

Off Topic, one of my touchscreens is white when i plug it in, wont do anything else.
Man, i gotta quit opening these things up

well you may not realize it but your failure was quite a breakthrough :) i don't think anyone else has been able to get anything other than the aztech modem to be seen when plugged into the 27's mini pci slot.

as for the white screen.. carefully re-seat the ribbon cable in the motherboard socket. i've had that happen when it wasn't in just right.

    and, where's grass lake?

Yeah, and, Crap. I just wish i had known before i had the big plan to hook up wifi to an old 27. But maybe ive stumbled onto something good. got an old 28 layin around? I'll trade you two "mint" 27's...... yeah, mint.

I tried to reconnect the screen several times. Wonder if the cable went bad. the other screen works fine on the board.

Grass lake is just off 94 at exit 153, about 45 minutes west of the "D". Kinda country, but plenty of room to ride the toys without complaining neighbors.

Between Jackson and Chelsea, if that gives reference.

At least Dizzo has another Michigan guy on the case, and at least Gravitar has a few CF-27's for reference. The only time I've touched a CF-27 was in his van when we did a sketchy looking keyboard deal ;)

Cool. I can check out a 27 that's not in pieces. I'm always looking for an excuse to visit the wonderfull police officials of Detroit.

    So, to recap,
Unless I made some teriffic breakthrough, the pci board on the 27 doesn't recognize anything other than the Aztek.

Oh and do you thinks its possible I fried it as mentioned earlier?

Did you make sure and put the little aluminum spacers back inbetween the mini pci holder and the case? They're easy to miss, and could cause the card to not getting good ground or something of the sort.

well, it turns out, unless we make some sort of breakthrough, the cf-27 can't recognize any card other than the stock aztek modem. Also, I did check those spacers a few times. thanks for the help.

I think it may have something to do with the little 2-wire plug that goes from the ribbon cable to the card. Looking at the card, its also a Conexant chip set...ugh, what a pile of crap chip set.
