First I'd like to say hello to everyone here. I'm new to toughbooks, just purchased a CF-27 with integrated wireless modem. And I'd like to know is there software for this or will it be reconized. Also what os is best for these, if I wanted to use the touchscreen and writing software.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure that Gravitar, the Cf-27 King, will be along shortly to answer your 27 questions.

The prevailing wisdom is that the radio modem options are useless to us. They may, in fact, be useless to their original purchasers too, as I've heard that the cellular service needed to support these cards has been discontinued.
I think they map to a COM port in BIOS if you want to try experimenting with it. -
Thanks for your quick replys, so what would you suggest for wireless connections.

There were some CF-27's that shipped with GSM/CDMA modems that may still have some use These usually came with the yellow tops and were co-branded by SBC. On these you would find a SIM slot near the RAM slot. The only thing I am not sure about is if they were locked to SBC or if they could be used by Cingular/ATT or others. You would just need to get the wireless manager software from your carrier to set-it up and of course have a data plan. The best solution would be just to get an Aircard that mounts flush in the PCMCIA slot and run the existing antenna lead to it.

Thanks so much. Any aircard you would suggest?

You may want to check with your carrier and see what they offer/support but you just need to make sure that you get one without the built in antenna so you can plug in to the existing antenna, otherwise you will need to leave the door open when using it which is verboten for toughbook users.

Thanks again, much appreciated
