Hello everyone, This is my first post to the board but I have been emailing with Toughbook on some issues. He and all of you are fantastic. I have a cf28s3jgzkm with 1.0ghz. 512, 30gig. I replaced the entire 13.3 screen with a 12.1 lcd touchscreen. After installing drivers and swearing alot I got it to work. However when my display settings are at 800 x 600 the desktop image is in the lower right corner of the screen. I cant see or get to my start button and or bottom task bar. If I switch settings to1024 x768 the image fills the entire screen (all Pixels good no bad sectors) but Then I really cant get to the start button or task bar. I can't set the dispay settings anywhere inbetween the button jump to either 8800 x 600 or 1024 x 768. Toughbook mentioned something about dip switches to change from the 13.3 to 12.1 but suggested I post to you guys. He seemed to remember someone else having a similar issue. Thanks in advance guys. I am definetly a newbie to Toughbooks and to this forum and posting thing.

I know there's a problem with changing screen sizes on the CF28M, but I thought the P and S versions didn't have this problem.

I think some one had an issue with an M, trying to add a 13" TS for a 12, but I don't remember isues in going the other way. The screen showed a duplicated desktop, where yours is cut off, his started to repeat.

Does it show the same way through the VGA out port?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers? Double check you have the right video drivers for the model, screen and OS you are using.

There may be jumper settings you need to when you switch, but I've changed a 12" for a 13" with no problems, and no switches/jumpers.

TB probably has gone over this already, but we don't know what you have tried to this point.

Also seach the forum to see if you can find the other thread. There may be things mentioned to try from the brain trust that don't come to mind right off.
Keep posting so we know how it is going.

    Hi guys,
Tried unistall and reinstall of the drivers I have. No success. After rereading all the posts do you suppose I ended up with a 12.1 from a 600? According to Libretough the mother boards may not support the display or something like that. I have the 28s 1.0ghz and a couple posts say that I may need a 13.3 touchscreen because I had a 13.3 non touch to start. I really appreciate the help and please understand I am a woodworking teacher that is all thumbs around computer inards and lingo. I promise before I run this through the tablesaw I would offer it to you guys. If I do need a 13.3 touch would any one like to trade for the 12.1 I have. I will cover shipping and the difference for the size. Thanks.

Thanks Rick and to all who post advice. I am fast becoming addicted to the mod thing but I have a short temper that I believe will cause me to become to stressed and frustrated when issues arise. I should probably just buy a complete unit from Toughbook and get it over with. His "Ultimate Toughbook" listed on ebay is incredible I wish I had the money.

If the replacement screen is from 600 your in trouble coz there lcd cable assignment is dif.. It is ok! if the 12" LCD came from 800 or 1 G. You can try trial in error with LCD cable assignment. I don't know the dip switches that they are talking about but you can also ask them how to set it correctly. Good Luck

    Thanks Ohlip,
I have learned through the post that the 1000's dont have dip switches? I think I am hearing you say that if the 12.1 is from and 800 or higher I could pull the pins from the plugs and switch there location and possibly get it to work? I am looking at the little wires and pins and thinking "Yeah Right". I am heading out to my wood shop for the Sawsall. Milwaukee 1.5 hp 3300 strokes per minute. 14 inch wood blade.

Is there an easy way to tell what this 12.1" Touch screen came from. LCD LC121S1 Of course I bought it on ebay but all the auction said was that it was a working 12.1" touch screen from a panasonic cf-28. I should have asked more questions. The seller seems like a large operation that sells all kind of computer stuff. It does work great and is in excellent shape it just wont give me the correct screen size that I need.

    Thanks for the link Rick.
I have a 13.3 non touch that I took off the computer to try this 12.1 touch. My 13.3 is perfect and I will probably put that back on until I fiqure out the problem with the 12.1 (compatability) or until I find a 13.3 touch from an 800 or 1000. I quess I am not sure if this 12.1 touch is from a 600mhz?

I don't know if anyone here has tried to switch pins in the plugs or not. I think that would be a definite ' NO' to do. The fact that you are getting a desktop indicates they are probably fine. If you pull, it may never work again. Better to try to resell on ebay and get what you want. You may be right that it is from a 600 and is expecting a certain signal that the 800/1000 models don't give the same way. I think the 600's also only have 4mb of video memory, while the others have up to 48(?), and I think they use a different video card. [I'm thinking about a 1000 myself, so let me know before it goes to the Sawsall]. But hopefully we can get it working for you - tho I don't know if the 'chief got his working right or not.

    Thanks Klboo,
Seems like no matter what I try I cant get it right. If I fill the whole screen I can't see the bottom. If I go with the lower settings 800 x 600 it leaves the empty 1 3/8" space on the left and a 1" space across the top. Everything in the device manager says that all is working properly. Toughbook gave me a link on changeing parameters to allow for any setting of the display but I have no Idea how to work through that kind of stuff. How can I get a hold of "Chief"?

You can send him a private message and see if he responds. Click on his name in the thread he started and then select to PM him, or go to your private messages and send him a not. I don't know if he worked out his issue or not, and it was the reverse of yours really, but it's got to be related somehow.
