    Did a bad thing...

Have a CF-28 800Mhz toughbook with the 12.1" transflective touch, and bought a 13.3" touch CF-28 600 for the covers and screen. Swapped out the 12.1" for the 13.3". All went well; split the 13.3" screen, pulled more wire out, flipped connectors...etc. Installed a rubber backlit keyboard into the 800 as well. Fired it all up, calibrated the screen. Good to go.

Then started putting the 12.1" on the 600. Noticed the hinges were not sitting flat. Took the 13.3" off again, looked its hinges...sure enough...a little cut-out for a nub. Took both screens apart to get the hinges swapped. Put everything back together. Fired up the 800...black screen...Computer was still firing up as HD and keyboard were working though. Put the 12.1" on the 800...fired it up...no backlit LCD again, but because it is transflective could see the screen to navigate. Hmmmm. Put the 12.1 on the 600...fired it up; backit worked fine (wrong driver though...but at least confirmed backlit worked).

So...something has happened to the 800 and it is not sending a signal to the LCD to power up. Thinking maybe a connector problem (bent pin) but is there anything else ya'll can recommend to look for?

Major bummed, and hoping it's relatively simple. The 800 is a good runner in which I've updated the HD to an 80GIG 7200, the DVD mod, and a Kingston RAM chip.

    Any ideas?

Mmmhmmm... If the inverter/backlight are functional, I'd look for damaged connectors on the MB or the LCD cable...

    Good hunting!

Thanks mnem, that was my 1st thought too. Thought I'd tap the knowledge base and see if there was something else going on that someone might have experienced at some point. Gonna be a few days before I get the time to investigate, but will post results when found.

EDIT: After a kind return e-mail and direction from Toughbook I think I am looking at a blown fuse on the MB ala this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/archive/index.php/t-198473.html
