It's how Toughbooks procreate. Don't pull it in & out too much - you'll get your laptop excited.

    ;)

    Welcome to the forum... and...

Really... there is MUCH... VERY MUCH... info already posted on this forum about this subject. PLEASE read AT LEAST the Toughbook F.A.Q.s before posting - they'll answer a LOT of questions for you; the forum search function will give even MORE details.

But since you asked nicely -

If your laptop was an original Mk3, that antenna is either for a CDPD MODEM (Analog, no longer serviced by any major carrier) or it (I've heard of, but never seen one) may have been for an optional digital PCS cell MODEM, now also being phased out by all major carriers in favor of EVDO/3G/4G. If it's about 5" long, its for CDPD; the PCS model would be about 2.5 - 3" long. Either can be readily converted into a serviceable WiFi antenna, or that location can be easily adapted for use with an advanced GPS antenna, which is a very popular mod on this forum.

How do you say RTFM nicely?
