I have a CF-28 800Mhz that the screen has been slowly getting darker. I replaced the inverter without any improvement. The next step was to replace the CFL. I can't quite figure out how to remove the CFL.

Does any one know of a step by step tutorial to removing and replacing the CFL on a CF-28??

    Thanks.

My advice to you is when you are going to buy a cfl. The best place is on digikey not somewhere else. Like on ebay! you will regret it. It will give you a greenish color or maybe a bluewish. What I always do is to look for a broken LCD with the same model and then harvest its cfl. This way I'm pretty sure it will give you a right color not a washed out but of course you don't know how long it will last.

I have done this repair myself and it is a pain in the rear. First get a copy of the service manual on line and use it to assist in removing the LCD panel from the bezel and lid cover. This will require that you also remove the hinge cover, keyboard, and keyboard connector cover. Once you have the LCD panel free of the computer place it face down on a soft cloth. Next remove the two screws from the strip of metal running along the bottom of the panel. Next use a sharp exacto knife and cut the tape holding the metal to the white plastic of the panel. Get an opti-visor or a magnifying glass and locate the small clips at the sides that hold the bottom piece the side pieces. carefully and gently remove the bottom piece, don't force anything use your magnifier to look for any small tape that might be holding it to the panel. Once this is removed carefully remove the bulb and reflector from the bottom piece. Again don't force anything you don't want to bend the reflector because you will have to reuse it if all you bought was the bulb. Note the locations of the clear o-rings on the bulb so that they can be transferred to the new bulb. Try to use gloves so not to get oil and fingerprints on the new bulb. Carefully reassemble in reverse order. GO SLOWLY AND TAKE YOUR TIME because if you don't get the bulb and reflector assembly put back in right you will get annoying shadows and your screen won't be as bright as it could be, ask me how I know. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
