Has anyone run into the problem where once the touchscreen is enabed it drives the mouse to the edge of the screen and then proceeds to jump continuously? I've loaded alot of machines now, so it's not the drivers conflicting. I don't have a spare touchscreen but I took the drive out and put it in another MK3 and the drivers check out fine. It isn't completely dead, I can get a response from the cursor when I tap the screen and it moves slightly in Y before it jumps back. It's almost as if I had a GPS in the system, at least that is a good way to describe what it looks like. (I've tried disabling all the serial ports, and that had no effect)...I wonder if the interface board is hosed. I might have a spare somewhere but it might be from an MK1... I'm kind of pulling my hair out now, almost ready to swap it with a known working screen but I hate to do that to my daily toughbook.

Thanks,I might need one. I've given up for today, I'll tackle it again in the morning. I thought they were all the same too though with MK1 screens the connectors are reversed so when you install them on MK2/MK3 you have to re-adjust the cables behind the lcd to give you a bit of slack before you can safely connect and route the cables properly. I know I have put MK1 touchscreens on MK2s without an issue but this is the first time I have done so with an MK3. I'll get back at it in the morning and we'll see. I hope my cables aren't bad, I don't want to have to deal with that (visions of me sitting there with a dvm and checking each wire makes my head hurt) and I don't want to have to replace the touchscreen portion of the display assembly. So far I've had bad luck getting the air-gap removed when I tried. I am tired it has been a long week and this day has been bad all around. I also had to replace the pass-through on this MK3 as the mmcx connector (the cable that is soldered on) was coming loose at the radio end. Of course, didn't discover that until I had everything buttoned up with the exception of the side-plate in front of the hidden pcmcia.

If it's jumping to the same spot over and over, you can try loosening up the screw(s) closest to it. Sometimes something gets under the edge and puts pressure on the screen. Otherwise, the controller is cheap & easy though it may not work. The controller is the same in all of the 28s so no worries there.

Thanks! I was able to use the interface board from a cracked MK1 touchscreen that I had been saving for parts. I couldn't sleep with this problem and I just wrapped up about 4 hours of work. It's fixed anyway. I learned something with this problem.

I also noticed for the first time that the lid and bezel are different on an MK1, they don't have the little ears... I must try to be more observant. If anyone had asked me before I would have said "No, they are the same..." sigh.

U can also check if there is somthing, which is emiting frequencies. as i tested a selfbuild version of an, at this moment opened, switched powersupply, the mouse get jumping like wild. i screened the circuit and everyting is ok.

I noticed that you list "factory AND EM-408 GPS"... If you have anything from the factory GPS installed you have the classic "Jumping mouse" issue. You need to go into Device Manager and disable the "Serial Ballpoint" under the mouse tab. That will stop it from jumping around. You also might want to make sure you have the correct filters and stuff installed if you are using the factory GPS.

Hi, as I posted earlier it was the interface board. I'm very aware of the jumping mouse issues with any serial GPS. The machine in question as I mentioned had all serial ports disabled and it still did that. It is fine now, I have to do some research on what that board actually does. I am very glad I kept the broken touchscreen assembly, I wonder if others have had this problem with the board... Rick, I've moved so far beyond "jumping mouse caused by ball point mouse" issues :)

Let's see, these two machines make the count over 15 and still incrementing (I have three being delivered next week) I am still refraining from buying any CF-29s yet. When the thrill is gone, perhaps.

I keep dreaming about buying a huge lot of machines from a local municipal government for pennies on the dollar, and they are all GPS machines with factory wifi... and then I wake up.

    Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

That board is strictly a touchscreen controller; it does nothing else. As that implies, IIRC it sends out a solid repeating signal to the touchscreen and detects changes & where they happen when the screen is pressed then feeds back the answer to the mainboard. In what format I don't know, but you could probably hook it up to an O-scope or something.
