    Hey Guys,
I have a 28 with a cracked touch screen - cracked the touchscreen layer during disassembly to paint - OOPS. Few Questions for the group:
1- Is it possible or feasible to replace just the front layer only, it appears to be installed with two faced tape?
2 - It appears that the front touch layer is very opaque - the LCD behind is very crisp and bright - is this how they are new or is this from age? seams that the Touch Screen really lacks the brightness but looks like the front touch layer is the problem -
3 - Is the touch screen interchangeable from a 600MHZ to an 800MHZ ? I assume so but thought I would ask.

    Thanks for your thoughts -

1: Yes, it's possible but just depends on how much you're willing to spend and where you get it from.

2: Most are opaque brand new, the 12" ones especially so.

3: As long as they're both the same screen size, you're fine. 12" to 12" or 13" to 13" but not 12" to 13" or vice versa.

Sometimes it is best to just buy a whole new monitor assembly as you rarely find just the touchscreen unit. I've messed up two touchscreen units while pulling out the screens to paint the bezels for custom orders... It's no fun because even if you are carefull and know what you are doing... It can still happen.

I've seen subtle differences in the touchscreen connector between the 600 & 800 series. Be careful what you order.

Where can I find a link on how to install these screens?

HI: The 600 & 800 Touchscreens are interchangeable. At least the three that I have done worked out OK. The plugs are reversed on the motherboards. You have to pull out a little more cable coming from the screen so that you can get enough length so they will plug into the motherboard. I think as long as you use the entire screen you might be able to replace a 12.1" screen with a 13.3" screen. I have not done this but I have a feeling that it would work OK. Hope this helps. Spark

in fact, if all you're replacing is the touch panel, you don't even have to deal with the reversed connectors problem. the little cable that connects the touch panel to the adapter board is the same for all of them

I have a 13.3" screen with touch assembly that works fine but has a red hue to it. If you need the touchscreen part I'd send the whole thing, shoot me a PM.
