If you've bought a toughbook from ebay, each one comes with 17 floppy drive caddies. What on earth can you do with these things? I have tried using them as planters and coasters and an ashtray. Not very good. I finally took one apart and looked at it.

The floppy is on the right and a DVD is on the left as you view the pics.

The actual case and dock to the computer are the same. The problem is the ribbon connector that goes to the drive itself. The ribbon for the floppy is wider, but has wider wires and fewer actual wires. The CD ribbon is narrower with more, thin wires. It seems that if there is a way to connect from the optical drive to the computer interface, these floppy caddies would be useable.

    Thoughts?

    Rickdog,
This has been discussed before but no one has done it or if they have they didn't post it here. Sooo, be the first to do it and get in the TBF hall of fame. Keep us posted. Note the quote in my sig. Good luck,

One day, my rotozip and I cut and chopped and hacked apart a floppy disk caddy with the thought of squeezing a CDROM inside. The CD drive is physically a little too wide to fit in the floppy caddy, and then there's the aforementioned cable issue. In conclusion, its a nice thought, but just ain't gonna work.
