A friend has a CF-28. Sorry folks no model # he's at a gun show in Nevada.
800Ghz.
His wife has a CF-28 1000Ghz. She also has a set of USB speakers powered by USB.
When he plugs in her USB speakers to the 800, they light up and he can adjust the volume on the laptop speaker with the volume control on the speakers but no sound from the speakers. That's right the lappy speaker stays on. Other USB devices work in the 800.
The last thing he tried was the recently reported deal of pulling the battery and holding the power switch on for a time to reset.
Kick it around and I'll relay.

Are his USB speakers actually USB speakers, or do they just draw power from the laptop's USB port?
If they're actually USB speakers he may need to install drivers or, if the drivers are already installed, he may need to select them as an alternate audio device in the Sound Properties applet in Control Panel.

I'm with Mnem. There is no reason the USB speakers would turn off the internal speaker, that's a mechanical function at the headphone socket. My b-flex USB speakers were just immediately detected by XP as a "USB Audio Device" and work fine in the CF-30. They are normally used on the CF-07 when its carputing and work fine with that which is about the same vintage as a CF-28.
JLab Audio - JLab's portable, compact, speakers are the best for your laptop!
I have not installed drivers for these speakers in the 30, I don't remember on the 07, but they seem to be plug and play in XP. They are pretty good speakers too.

So.......when you plug in the USB speakers the lappy speaker is s'posed to stay live? I envisioned internal workings to disable it.....and I'm not talking about the switch in the speaker plug. Some software /driver type stunt. I got to get my hands on that thing when he gets home.
Hey Cap I got a Holux GPS(ebray $21)....plug it into the CF-30 and over the back of the chair and whammo. Tin roof and all. -
Well, no... actually, in some cases you can have both audio devices working at the same time. You just have to select it from the Sound Properties applet in
Control Panel.

I've actually never noticed. The CF-07 has no speaker, and the few times I've used the J-Lab speakers with a CF-18 its entirely possible that both the external and internal were working, the J-Lab speakers have their own amp in the pod and can get really loud, half way decent ZZ Top loud.

mnmen took the words outta all our mouths. If the audio is routed thru the USB then you may need drivers on non XP systems, if it simply uses the USB to power them and there is a 3.5mm jack that the audio routes thru then something is wrong with the computer.
CF-28 Here's one to kick around.
