    Hi all

My LCD screen suddenly quit on me... On reboot I can faintly see the Panasonic logo flicker then black... even though the computer seems to complete the reboot and wireless card connects.

Any ideas? It is a touchscreen which was also working fine until this happened...

    Thanks

P.S. - I have already taken all of the panels off and removed and reinstalled all of the plug ins.

Your full model number would help as there is a subtle difference between 600 and the other two. (I read this)
    TEST site:forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic - Google Search
Drag and drop this on your tool bar.
Replace TEST with CF-28 lcd...or whatever. This is Azrial's good search engine for this forum. I remember several posts about your problem.
    Thanks,welcome and good luck. :)

Here's the first one. I replaced test with CF-28 LCD issue.

Thank you for the quick reply and as soon as I have a few minutes I will try a few of these suggestions... I can rule out the fuse though as the screen flickers to life for a split second on reboot then goes black...

I will post what I find out.. thanks again!

If it has a redish tint when the light is on, the backlight is out. If it looks good and just dies, I would put money on an inverter

The fuse issue on these usually only arises when someone tries to unplug the screen without removing AC power or battery.

Given your symptoms, and my experience, and the general agedness of the 28 platform, I'm going to suggest the CCFL as your likeliest cause of failure, with the inverter coming in second. While the inverter CAN fail in this way, it is USUALLY a go/no go item; this type of failure is USUALLY associated with a failed CCFL.

Further confirmation: have you had a period of time before the failure where it would be very dim or pinkish at first then come up normal colored and/or useable brightness?

Replacing a CCFL is POSSIBLE; it is, however, not a job for the faint of heart. If you feel comfortable taking apart VCRs and soldering in transistors, this is a job you can probably do. Otherwise, you're probably best off looking for a replacement LCD; yes, they ARE separate from the touchscreen.

The Dragon is right it can be done, I have done it and posted about it. I got a replacement tube from one of the regulars on this site, just can't remember who it was. It was a real PITA to get done. You might try searching ebay for a cheap parts computer, or someone selling the whole lid cheap. changing out a whole lid for another is pretty easy, just remember to remove the power supply and battery before starting.

    I've got a good non-touch MK2-3 complete display for $10 plus shipping.
