    I'll warn you now that this is a dumb question... But I've searched and read and I'm still stumped! My CF-28 (like most laptops) dims by 50% when unplugged in order to save power. I don't want this to happen... Or at least, I'd like to be able to control this feature. I cannot figure this one out!

    Does anyone have a sure-fire way to fix this?

    If you are running Vista the fix is easy. Simply go in the system tray where you can change your power settings (like power saver, balanced, etc) and double click or hit the options button there. Then go through the different settings there and change the brightness when they are unplugged. It's as simple as that! :D I'm not quite sure how it works with XP though... Hope that helps!

    You could try choosing a different power scheme in Control Panel => Power Options after you unplug the notebook, or searching for a brightness level option while you're still there. You could also use RMClock, which has an LCD panel brightness level for each power profile.

    I've tried Control Panel... No dice.

    I may give RMClock a whirl...

    I downloaded RMClock... I think you have to pay for the screen brightness control feature though... $19.95 to adjust my settings is a bit much... Looks like a cool GUI though.

    have you check ur display properties, right click on desktop and click properties, and then click screen saver, and you'll see the option for monitor power.....
    or have you checked ur bios.....

    Win 2K on a cf-28 - here's how it's done:

    a. mouse over the battery icon in the status tray;
    b. right-click it;
    c. select "Adjust Power Properties;"

    this opens a setup window, and the "Power Schemes" tab is where you'll find what you're looking for. It shoudl be the default tab.

    Hotkey manager is intalled. The BIOS has Fn keys enabled... I think I'll need a reinstall of XP... I'm waiting on finishing the streamline CD before I do that.

    In Win2k I just use the hotkeys to adjust brightness. If I adjust it when unplugged, it'll remember that and revert to that brightness next time it's unplugged.

    Nope... It's WinXP and I think I found the porblem. I used the chipset from the last Mobo on the one I swapped in. I think that is what did it. I don;t have the issue on my new CF-28.
