My touchpad is virtually useless all of a sudden. The pointer is uncontrollable and jumps all over the screen. The touchscreen and PS2 mouse both work fine. I think my son may have been pressing on it with a stylus or something.

Is the pad easy to replace if necessary, or is even repairable?

It changed the setting of your Gps on com port if you do have builtin gps on you unit thats why the mouse are jumping all over the place and it detect as serial ball mouse. Try to download the Gps patch or disable the serial ball mouse on the device manager under PS2.

The touchpad had been working just fine the night before and I can see a section that has been scratched. Also, I only have the daughter board of the GPS installed and haven't installed the antenna or EM408 yet.

That make sense. Just check the connection under the palm rest or you may clean it up the edges of the touchpad(underneath by a piece of toothpick and the roll a bit of cotton with a bit of alcohol and see what happen. Eventhough even if the touchpad is worn it will work just fine.

BTW, Since you are in BC. I can send you a replacement half upper buttom that is lying around here. I only need a shipping cost to your place.

I had the same problem with my sons cf-28. It wound up being dirt under the edge of the mouse pad pressing down. I used a old tooth brush to clean the edges good then a tad to compressed air. Haven't had the crazy mouse problem since.
