Is the touchscreen supposed to have a slightly inflated feel to it like a thin pillow? in the center you have to push in quite far vs. the edges you just touch. Or is the screen protector somehow doing this. I have one of the blindcenternv CF-28ST's. This is the first Toughbook I've had with touchscreen so I don't know what it's supposed to feel like. I tried doing a search but couldn't find anything about my question.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I only have experience with my CF-29 TS; but yes I would say that it bows out in the middle and requires a little more pressure there than it does at the edges.

I agree with Pappy. My cf-29 is a little 'pillowy' in the center as well.

OK, good to know that's normal. Thanks for the responses.

It's not supposed to be that way but a lot end up there over time so in that sense it's normal.

As zeroflight said, some come that way. I've picked up several in surplus, and 3 out of the 5 had the 'inflated' or soft feel to the touchscreen. The other 2 felt more like a regular LCD screen. Not sure why, but apparently it is common. Feels a little mushy, but works fine.

Is the 'inflated' portion of the display a replaceable cover piece or is it part of the screen itself?

I have one screen that is mushy and one that isn't. I disliked the mushy feel enough to swap screens even though the non-mushy one (I love hi-tech definitions like that!) has a scratched area. Be nice to replace it if possible.

I haven't run the risk yet of taking one apart to see if there is something that can be changed. I have thought it might be a misapplied screen protector, holding in air, but it could be something about the tension/placement of the touchscreen portion over the LCD. Since there are several layers, it could be air trapped between 2.
If I feel adventuresome, I might try opening up a screen to see. If I do, I'll report back.

The entire touchscreen itself is what's bending and there's really nothing you can do but replace it.

Do you think it may be an effect of vehicular heat that causes that?

Yes... Most of the bulging screens are the ones that come out of Police cars. The heat causes this and there is no way to correct it. I have them to varying degrees. My CF-29 has absolutely none... All 28s have it to some degree. (At least all the ones I have seen.)
