    Hi Everyone,

I just bought my first ToughBook this weekend. It is a CF-28PTJAZDM. How do I determine which Mk this model is?

More importantly: my trackpad is behaving unusually. It requires extreme force to register movement. Can this be corrected in software? Do I need to disassemble the unit and reseat something?

I installed archlinux on it and I love it. Quite peppy for its' age.

Your touchpad may just be responding to gunk jammed in the bezel; cut a triangular piece of soda-bottle plastic and use it to gently probe between the surface of the touchpad and the bezel.

On mine, I wasn't that lucky; it required replacement. This requires pretty much complete disassembly of the unit. Post back here with the results of your edge-cleaning exercise.

Check out the Linux posts here. Top of the head you:
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf
    In the empty file enter:
    Code:
    options psmouse resolution=400
    save and re-boot.

But FIRST do what M suggested.
Another thing that has helped me is to go inside and remove re-seat the touchpad fpc. (flat plastic cable)(flexible printed circuit)????

When hardware is cleaned and working correctly THEN use the psmouse hack.
disclaimer: I have not used Archlinux so I don't know if the commands are exactly the same.
Search on this forum with (thanks to Azrial) TEST site:forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic - Google Search
In this case I replaced TEST with my keywords psmouse.conf.

Jeff...first the hardware then the software...

Jeff is right, I had the same problem when I installed Linux on my CF-28, made the change in Linux and no problems after that. For some reason this is an issue with Linux and the trackpad in a CF-28.
