Hi Guys, great forum. I'm new to Toughbooks and new here. I'm in a process of installing WIFI in my "new" CF-28, 800MHz. Got from the Ebay: 3M combined modem/network card and the Atheros wireless card. Now comes the antenna question. Did anybody tried to use the rubber antenna from the CF-M34 toughbook? Looks to me, that it will be not a difficult adaptation. I have one from CF-M34, I got at the Ebay for parts. Any idea if this will work?
I check all the threads on antennas, did not find anything on using one from the CF-M34.

That antena was designed specifically for WWAN. You need to modify to make it compatible to a wi-fi freg.

You should do the hack that Mnem did using the CF-28 RIM antenna... If you aren't going to mount a GPS antenna there in the future... That would be the best way to go. The modded RIM antenna is an awesome WIFI antenna... I never liked the CF-M34 wifi antenna personally.

Thanks for the input Mr. Toughbook. Any idea where I will find this hack by Mnem? Is the Rim CF-28 antenna the one on left, top corner of the screen?
I have one. I'm trying to match the antenna to Atheros card for best performance. For now I'm using what is in the machine, namely Cisco Aironet 350. It's working fine, but I need "g" standard. Cisco is only "b". Have the parts for the mod. but did not do anything yet. Thank you.

There were several different Whip antenna's that were used on the CF-28. If yours came with the factory Cisco 350 and you have a whip antenna then you don't need to do any hack you just have to make the connection from the pass-through to your new Wifi card.

You can go HERE and see Mnem's hack... Works VERY well. (And now going into the CF-28 sticky so it's the last time I have to search for it!)
