After doing some research on here, I wanted to see if there are any sources of PCMCIA WiFi cards that can be used with the internal antenna on the CF28. At work we have WPA on our wifi, along with my mobile hotspot, and the internal stock wifi won't do WPA, only WEP. If I could find a card that could swap straight in, that would be awesome.

Question two, if not, I am looking at the engenius cards, and a flag antenna under the little plastic piece seen in the CF-28 FAQ, and possibly throw in a bulkhead connector to add a higher gain antenna for various circumstances that this could come in handy.

Any suggestions on which route to take?

    Thanks

    Tyler

Never owned a cf28, but on my cf29 I installed a bulkhead connector and used a can antenna at times and it worked really well. I have installed a bulkhead on my cf30 and I am going to mount a gps/wifi antenna on my truck roof. On my cf52 I used a flag antenna for the needed 3rd antenna on an Intel 5300. It also works very well. I suggest a small antenna jumper board available on fleabay. Lots of laptops used them. Then you can connect the flag and the bulkhead.

I am guessing you are still running the Cisco 350 wi-fi. There is a engenius PCMCIA wif-fi card that will plug right in and use the stock antenna. I haven't tried it personally but I have read where someone used it in a thread.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Yeah, I am still using the built in Cisco 350 wifi. I'll probably end up going with the mini pci card and a flag antenna, with an external antenna jack, and the 9dbi antenna.

    Thanks

I recommend this card which far more better: New Broadcom 300M 802 11n BCM43222 WLAN Card for Panasonic Toughbook CF28 CF29 | eBay
Then use your existing pull up antena. Your antena is already designed to 2.4. you just only need a pigtail that will goes in to this card.
I am not a fan of those bulky antena that stick on the side of the unit. Why! coz it is prone into damage. Also scewing it up and unscrewing is not so...... and its u.....y

Take a good look of those and you will realized what I am talking about.

Only problem is I don't have a pull up antenna, if you are talking about the WWAN pull up antenna.. I am looking for one, but I haven't had any luck finding any, so I'll have to use a flag antenna inside, and add a bulkhead connector for external antenna use.

I could use the existing antenna, and add an extension though.

OP... You should find a pull-up antenna and do the mod that Mnem posted here years ago. It is the best antenna hack so far for the CF-28...
