I have a CF-28 that I use during search and rescue operations for mapping. I have upgraded the GPS using the thread in this forum and it has worked out great. However, Windows XP is unrecoverable. I shut the lid while it was updating and I have crashed the entire system. I do not have the appropriate Windows XP pro recovery CD and I cannot seem to find any online. Any help?

First off what model do you have? What's the full model number on the bottom of the unit? Some of the older disks can not be purchased at heartlands anymore from what I hear. I personally have a few left but they only work on the Mk2 models with dual COA. The drivers are still available so you could install a generic XP pro from a install disk and then load you drivers as a option also.

I have a CF-28SWPGAKM. I have a Windows XP pro retail DVD that I tried to use. However it would not accept the product key that is on the bottom of the toughbook.
Springfield, I have never used toughbooktalk.com's forum. Can you give a little more detail on how to get a hold of Rob? -
Retail and oem use different product keys.

Hans,
Your COA on the bottom, is it XP or Win2000, I've just been through the same problem with my CF-28 MK3, even though it had a XP sticker on top and was probably dual boot at the beginning, the XP recovery discs would not load and I had to restore it as a W2000 machine.

I will have to see if I can find the thread. You can mod the iso file to ignore checking the model number when it boots up, then burn a new disk.
Found it.

I got a Mk2 that has windows 2000 and xp on the coa. How that works is the restore disk has both media's on it. You are to choose ONE of them when you boot up to install.
