Thanks, downloaded it, but it seems the program does not work with the CF-27 GPRS card. Anyhow, i modded my CF-28 (mk1) and build a Intel wifi 2100 card inside it, and used some Toshiba 4600 antenna cables to put underneath the battery. And it works. So, instead of GPRS working on my CF-27 , i now have wifi in my CF-28.

anyhow, thanks for the link, midget.fr

The GPRS software won't work with a cf 27 because it doesn't have GPRS. Instead it has gsm, basically the cf 27 phones a number and creates a dialup Internet connectin like an old desktop but instead over the mobile network this means you are charged by the minute. This differs from the cf 28 which has GPRS. GPRS Dosnt use a Phone number to connect instead it uses an access point name APN. Because of this you don't pay for your online time you pay for how much you download

The Intel 2100 wifi card is problematic, at least in Toughbooks. If you have trouble getting a reliable connection you might try upgrading to a 2915 or at least a 2200 -- or any other wifi card.

So this is the reason that the CF-27 GSM antenna and hardware is practically ... useless. too expensive in the current age. Didnt know that. I always tought that the antenna of the CF-27 could also be used for short-range ham radio or something else... Thanks for the info nsewell

To Springfield: I can see my neighbours wifi internet and also the strength of their connection in relation to my own 2100 card. Some neighbours have 60% strenght , others 80 or 30%. Still did not yet try any real transfer/connection.

midget.fr, here is a link where you can get checknet for Windows 2000.It is originally for CF-18, 29 and 73. Just download some versions and try it. Maybe it works for your card.

Official Support Download Center of the Drivers, Manuals and FAQs | TOUGHBOOK | Panasonic[]=002001003&p1=&p2=&oc=001002&lang=

I tried to install it on my old CF-27, and it installed (the XP version). IT seems that the checknet software just looks for the correct Siemens card.

    Good luck Sir !

Bump of topic. I just bought 3 of the same CF-28s (CF-28PBJ12FE) from stockloots. They all have the Siemens MC35. But now i have the same problem as the author of this topic. I cant get my MC35 working. The Checknet versions I tested do not recognise the card. I then tried to simply install the driver for the MC35, but when I look at Device Manager (Win XP sp3) then it says :"Location unknown" for the MC35 card. it still does not work. Do I have to use a certain IRQ and port option or so ? Any tips for settings or software, so that i can also use a Vodafone SIM card in my MC35 ?

It would be handy just for SMS. And If i am somewhere in the Sahara or so, where there is no WIFI available, and I need help or so, i can still use SMS. (of course I can do the same with my mobile phone hehe).

    - Checknet-2.11L10D-2kxp-nonlogo-M-web
    - gprs_29_1_d030570 (for the CF-29)

Update: I succeeded in getting Checknet working. The problem was the other modem. So, after disabeling the standard modem (the one that works with a cabel), my wireless modem (Siemens MC-35) worked. I tried to send an SMS message and that also worked. Nice.

I am now trying several software programs to use the CF-28 MC-35 gprs card for voice calls to normal phones.

Does anybody know the COM: port that is used by the Siemens MC-35 card ? I cant find it. Used several utilites from Hirens Boot CD and Ultimate Boot CD, but still nothing.

any hints what com: port is used ?
