Looks like the Blind Center of Nevada is auctioning off a lot of them. They are a few blocks up from me. They probably belonged to Las Vegas Metro Police.
-
Yeah, I just got mine for $162 - 13.3 , HD, RIM & XP Pro COA. SCHWEET!

Looks like just in time too....they've taken a jump in prices all of a sudden.
-
Glen, you aren't just a-kidding! Seems people are feeling the pressure, now that the first wave is sold out... and it looks like the last wave is shaping up to be quite pricey-ish as well...

I picked up 7 of them from the Blind Center.. And another 3 from other sellers. I'm set for another few weeks anyway.

I'm going to sell my CF-28 pretty soon. I think I'll finally buy that CF-52 with the ATI gpu. How much do you suppose a good condition CF-28 would go for?
I've upgraded It a bit. I've added a DVD player and an Intel ABG2100 minipci with two RP-sma connectors on the hinge line with 8db antennas. I've also changed the keyboard to the CF-29 black one and added a new WD40 gig drive. Its a Touchscreen 1000Mhz with 512RAM. It uses an Intel 64Mb Integrated graphics card but it only gets 750 points on 3DMark 2001se.
How much do Think this would go for? -
we need the specs of your unit.
-
Updated reply. Just a ballpark figure and just for fun. I'm ganna go look on ebay maybe ill sell it there.
-
You can probably fetch $400-600, depending on the day. Usually Sunday night listings work the best (More people have no life on Sunday night).
Being that it is a 1GHz model, you'll fetch a premium just for that. -
Look at this, its looks like one of the character on the transformer movie: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230214948620&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013
LoL! Mnementh... Look! its the enemy of Optimus prime. LOL -
I just listed mine on ebay. I can't wait to find a CF-52 although theres no need to mod it any so it kind of takes some of the fun out of it.

pretty sweet eh?

Why did you put the antenna's down there? Didn't want them chopped off by the rotor blades?
-
I've sent an ask the seller a question on Ebay.

I vote for Optimus Prime. I always vote for Optimus Prime, even if I have to pencil him in. I figure if I'm going to have to vote for some fictitious robot with no connection to my reality, it's going to be ONE I LIKE. Besides - I'm an American voter, and I'm used to my vote having no value whatsoever. -
I had thought of putting mine there actually... but I haven't needed better signal than I have now, so I've just left it alone.
-
C'mere, how much to take one o those helicopters on a "test flight" and bring the CF-28 with ye?
Shipping has really jumped through the hoops. Boy, those quotes were a shock all right....
-
How much are they nailing you for shipping to Ireland?
Keep in mind, Customs is the largest pain in the ass.
(This is coming from a guy who had his car searched by the Department of homeland security while LEAVING the US, frisked, then 10 minutes later searched by the Canadians in the same manner, then 4 hours later searched again by homeland security and border patrol coming back into the US... Not sure what they were looking for. I even had two honourably discharged army guys with me in the car!) -
I dread crossing the border into Canada. You aren't the only one that gets the shakedown at the border, believe me. It's just not worth the hassle to try and go over there. Whatever it is you guys have up there (actually, from where i'm sitting its up AND down) that you're trying to protect, you can keep it. Likewise for the border patrol on our side. And just think.. they're not even demanding passports YET..
Now OTOH, shipping things to/from canada through the mail hasn't really been a problem for me -
Ironically, We were stopped on that journey to see a band that is not allowed to come into the US until 2009 (they will face felony charges if they do). They tried to sell shirts and CDs at a benefit show in New England a couple years ago (Ie; they were not getting paid), and both customs and the feds smacked them with their long arm.
I do go up to Hamilton, near Toronto all the time though to visit friends and usually have no trouble when I'm bringing Canadian alcohol back.. just when I'm not breaking the law. -
VAT and Duty will amount to 1/3rd the TOTAL cost, including the shipping charges ... shipping via UPS which is what I wanted is over $220 and is only marginally faster than post ... so we're going with post.
-
OUUUUUUCH. I suppose that's right on par with the $60 they wanted to ship an empty box to my brother, so he could ship my PowerMac G5 to me. Sure it was a big box, but ouch. It just had foam in it.

You guys who THINK you know EVERYTHING are very annoying to those of us who DO... -
Yeah thats balls how much that was. I sent a DVD rom to france and it was $54. He got a good deal at $84 but blew it on the shipping.
I don't like that the rent-a-cops have guns at the border now, so much for the worlds longest undefended border.
17lbs was a good guess thats how much it was. -
Canadian alcohol now were talking $$, I lived up in Yellowknife for a bit and it was $66 for a flat of cans. Beer is so cheap in the States.I lived in Hamilton too in Hess village a bottle was $6.00
-
The shipping for my new CF-52 was $154 from frikin' Bronx NY.
It will be my first new notebook. It has a three year warranty so thats pretty good. I will go easy on it since its only semi-rugged. I've never seen a 1900*1200 15" screen before, It'll be interesting to see. -
-
Mythcell, You're right about Hess village. Way overpriced! I coulda sworn I was in a Hollywood bar or something after looking at my empty wallet. -
I just got my latest "parts" laptop from the Nevada Blind Center. Since they messed up on my prior orders (Gave me Win98 COAs instead of XP) they sent me a very nice CF-28 with XP COA (even though the auction said it was Win98). It has stock GPS! This one is the strangest one I have seen though... Unless it was put together by someone who didn't know what they were doing. It shows having GPS AND a RIM antenna. The weird thing is that the LAN cover is bumped out too! There is no modem showing yet there is a modem card installed! The LAN cover is bumped out about 1/4 inch apparently for no reason. I'll have to take it apart later to see what the deal is.
-
Flush bump?...someone showed a pic of that being the stock wifi antenna (solder terminals if I recall correctly)
Did you check the model number in the configurator? -
I hadn't done that yet.... But you were right! Apparently an internal antenna and it also uses the whip antenna. I'll have to check to see if the whip has the exact same resistors on it that the other ones do. This is the first configuration I have had like this.
It is model number - CF-28PTJPVQMBKB
PIII 800Mhz
13.3" XGA Touch Screen w/ Std Keyboard (Illuminated added)
30GB HDD - 256MB RAM
Floppy Disk Drive - Ethernet - 802.11b Wireless LAN
GPS - 802.11b Wireless LAN whip antenna (Cisco)
Windows XP ProQ - Dual (XP-2K)
North America
The only problem with it that I see so far is that the keyboard connector is broken. I think I can fix it but the ribbon was yanked out of it so violently that it pulled up on the entire connector, cracking it across the top. And the brown lever is gone... But I have 1-2 of those from other boards that are broken in other areas. This one will be fun to play with. -
Thats prob a rare config....
-
I've never seen or heard of one with this configuration. Like I said... IT'S PLAYTIME! (When I have the time!)
-
Mitch, CF28 arrived this AM .. the WiFi card is not being recognised. Hercules sees it as an Intel Pro / Wireless 2200BG 3a ... Dell.
Windows finds new hardware but fails to install, Intel PRO2XP does not find any Pro cards installed ... and Intel ID does not locate any Intel cards. Can't extract the Intel PRO2XP to try to seek the driver.
Advise, thanks.

Holy @$*&
I've just checked the prices you guys can pick them up for in America....SO cheap compared to over here!
I could have bought a specced-up CF-29 for the sort of money I paid for my '28!! Think I might try and bag a cheap one to rip apart and teach myself how these things are built....
Shipping to the UK from some sellers isn't too bad - but I guess I'll have to factor in about 35% to account for import duty/VAT etc...
I'll be adding a few to my watch list and seeing if I can get one cheap? -
Ask the seller to send it as a gift, with as description "used computerparts"
Some times that works here in Belgium
