Instead of a 31 Mk5 I ended up buying a CF-28 locally just for sh*t's 'n giggles. Based on the reading i've been done it should have 11b WLAN, but am I right?

I believe so but if not then it is a WWAN or cellular one.

What I use to upgrade mine to was Broadcom 4318 802.11g card. I went back though my old archive of ebay purchases to look that up.

That's a MPCI card. Does the CF-28 have a U.FL cable somewhere near a MPCI slot?

Received the 28, it's missing a COM port cover and the PCMCIA slot cover. There's one on eBay but ehh i'm not in the mood to get reamed for shipping.

The 28 only came with cables if it came with Wi-Fi from the factory. My first one had a pull out antenna for Wi-Fi. On the others I just added those universal Wi-Fi antenna's. Just got to put them under a plastic cover on the side or it can interfere with your signal.

Yaay my battery resurrected itself!
EDIT: It killed itself again. LUL. Oh well, I wasn't expecting anything out of it anyways.Last edited: Mar 12, 2020 -
I don’t know if any pre 29 OEM battery works. Well maybe. I had a 27 with a awesome 17 second battery life and a 28 with a whopping 2.5 minutes

I have some new-in-box batteries for 27 and 28 for sale, guaranteed to take a good charge. Even a few for CF-07 brick and VDW, probably 20+ years old now, new in box and still work great, have not had any duds yet ...

I remember the pull-out antennas on CF-28. They were usually tuned for the CPDP cell card frequency, but then [can't remember his name] showed us how to re-tune them for better wifi reception. There were a few 28S models that came with a wifi-B in the hidden PC card slot, which had pullout antennas already tuned for 2.4 GHz. Putting a cheap flag antenna under the palm rest plastic also works pretty good. Did this to a few 34's and 27's also.UNCNDL1 likes this.

I could fix you right up cheaply but Canada Post has stopped all shipping overseas. When ever this bad crap is all over look me up.
