    Hi guys.

First of, thanks to everybody that has posted on this forum, and made it such a good resource for toughbook modding! There is some good info here!

I have two (hopefully) quick questions.

Has anybody had a problem with mini pci causing a complete system freeze? My Cf28 800 had randomly frozen, so that XP and even base functions like hotkeys for sound etc would stop.

The only recovery was by holding power switch down, which still caused a beep. Luckily (!!) this fault got more frequent, and it seems to be linked to the mini pci slot, which I had but a wifi card in. As the problem was so infrequent, it was hard to test for. I have subbed the card, originally Intel ABG, now Gigibyte GN, but same problem. I can use usb for wifi, but I'd be interested to find the fault.

Second question. I'm looking into a work around for the keyboard inverter. (Bought an EL type of ebay).

Has anyone got any info on the other connectors (CN60/61 from memory?) They aren't shown in the Mk1 service manual.

The plan A work around is to mod an exisiting EL inverter, or plan b, as the keyboard comes apart easily, remove the EL mat, and fit some SMD Leds in there.

Any help on the above would be really great.

    Cheers, Simon

Simon... Welcome to the forum! Yes... I have... Check for debris in the pci slot. Also... make sure you are using the slot closest to the center... The outboard ones can be problematic with wifi.

Good luck on the inverter/LED swap. I thought about that too but don't have the time work it out....
