My friend took a 13" touch screen and put it on his CF-28, but now the screen does not come on. Does the keyboard have to be plugged in for the screen to come on? He thinks he broke one of the connections for the keyboard, I can take a picture later. The computer is a 1Ghz CF-28.

Where did this 13" touchscreen came from, of course from cf-28 what I mean is that from 600mhz? Be specific, so that we give you full info. The broken keyboard has nothing to do in terms of powering it up.

It was from a 800mhz, 256mb ram.

Did he have the laptop unplugged and have the battery out? Have you tried swapping back in the screen that was known to work? The swap only take 5 minutes and can rule out several things. If the battery was in and/or you had it plugged in during the swap... You could have possibly blown the monitor fuse... Ask me how I know!

the keyboard doesn't have to be plugged in for it to boot. BUT.. as long as we're talking about that.. on the CF27, the little keyboard/mouse interface board DOES have to be connected to the mobo for it to boot.

There is no image or anything on the screen during the boot up. I'm not sure if he had the plug/battery out. I tried to swap the screen out, but on the one I have who ever was in it last over tightened the screws for the hinge cover and now I can't get it off. Where would this fuse be located, and how would I get to it and check/replace it?

Does the unit beep, boot, activity lights go on or is it completely dead? Tried connecting vga externally?
-
The unit boots up normally, and I've connected it to a external monitor and that was fine also.

Thats another good lesson for a new starter, before you tighten a single screws on your project you must see to it first that the unit is working properly just in case you must go back again and rework to your project. Always remember that, if in any case before putting all together test the system for its functionality.

If "over tightened" means stripped, you will probably have to carefully drill/grind the head off the screw and then try to turn the shaft with a pliers. I've done this a couple times. if you don't care about this screw position at all, you can try to pry or chisel it out with a flatblade screwdriver. did that a couple times too
-
Or you may make an slot to give way a flat screw driver as "grav..." suggested if you don't care the screw.

This sounds familiar: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=284578
I've not had the time to delve into it yet, but more data for your troubleshooting.
When I can confirm, I will post up.
