I acquired a spare lid for my CF-28 so I can work on installing the GPS receiver and repainting the lid while still using my ToughBook. The touch panel was cracked and I wanted to remove it for painting anyways so out it went. The problem is that I tore the foam tape seal up a bit during the removal.

Was I being careless or is this pretty normal? Any ideas that prevent the seal from tearing? Also, do I need to get a new seal now or can I just silicone it back in place when I reassemble things? If a new seal is in order, can I make one or do I have to order one from someplace like Heartland?

I just used foam tape cut to size when I did mine. I had some similar stuff... Just a lot wider. I used a metal straightedge and cut strips to size. The devil was getting them into place! You want to make it so that, if you had to, that you could still take it back apart. Yes... This is pretty normal. You can CAREFULLY use a very sharp razor blade or an x-acto knife but you may risk cutting the ribbon cable on the touchscreen.
