Ok, scoured forum for links to this card. No dice.
This ebay seller found the first usb 2.0 pcmcia card I've seen that allows doors to be shut with card still inside:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250234274627
I want!
The best Google does fer me is a Chinese store in dire need of decent translation. Can't find the card anywhere. Sent message to seller with pathetic request for where he found the card.
Getting creative with card types in the hidden and shown slots is great, and I'm workin on Billionton bt pcmcia in hidden slot, but methinks it'd be sweet to have 2 more usb slots and the 2.0 is addt'l bonus.
First one to find this card for easy delivery in the States gets a smiley (I don't use em often).![]()
Thoughts?

If you are willing to buy 300 of this manufacturer
http://zone-tek.en.alibaba.com/prod...s/Super_Slim_PCMCIA_To_USB_Built_in_Card.html
I will be happy to buy 1 from you
Greetings -
That's pretty funny! That's the laptop I just won!
When I receive it, I'll see if I can get more info on it for you. Small world..... -
I emailed the seller too asking about info on the card. I guess he's not sharing.

Of course when I found out one of our old posters here was one of those guys, I quit telling him info... You get what you give -
I don't know what the price is, but count me in for around $75.00 worth -
I would also love to learn more about it for sure!
doc -
Count me in too!
-
You can count me in for a few. I've been looking for those for USB 2.0 for the internal slot. All I had found was 1.1 version types - and not many of those.
-
Besides the cool pcmcia usb 2.0 I also liked the class 1 bluetooth. I should read the posts to see how hard that is to do. Good luck on your purchase.
-
Count me in.
-
They have no US Rep at this time. They were very quick to offer me the job. We have not yet discussed quantities but the cards are VERY cheap. Any one want to pursue this PM me.
-
This might also work for you http://www.neutronexpress.com/prod.cfm/374905/
Jim -
Do you know if anyone successfully used or modded it? Be very interested to hear from anyone who did! Thank ya Jim! -
I have sent the money for the cards to China. I'm not too sure about this but hopefully I won't get burned. They are going to ship by DHL so when I get a tracking # I'll give a heads up! Wish me luck, I'm way new to the global economy on a personal basis.
-
I would like to buy a couple as well. PM me when they arrive...
-
-
As a noob here, I didn't wanna show up with some kinda financial shenanigans that didn't pan out.
Hopefully Capt has arrived at a great price. If he ordered in a significant quantity, I'd be delighted to buy from him directly. If supply runs short over time, I'd be delighted to order with Capt again to save money in bulk.
Thanks Capt. -
Thanks for getting them...count me in to buy a few from you
-
thanks capt. Count me in for three.
-
I got mine from
http://www.zone-tek.com
aswell
I got this back in December 07 I was trying to sell them but I got no action on it.
I spoke with [email protected] I told him I wanted to "test" the product so he sent me one for $8.10 + $20.00 DHL express took about 2-3days. -
I'm also in for three, ... thanks
-
I'll take 2-4 as well.
-
Depending on the price I'll be in for 20-30 cards. Since you can buy most USB-PCMCIA cards for around $4 - $5 on ebay... I imagine we can find them cheaper.
I often debate about posting stuff just because aholes like that guy come in here to take away but do not contribute. THAT ticks me off... Especially when they offer a terrible product and take NO pride in their work! This makes me wonder about starting a "members only" Toughbook website for the sharing of all info just to keep the aholes out. EVERYONE has SOMETHING to contrubute! I was telling someone today that there seem to be two types on this forum... Those that "do"... And those that "don't"... But love reading about it. Those that "do" contribute "how" to do it. Those that "don't" have maybe a little more ability to think outside the box and ask questions that make us all think about what we really want to do/achieve and how to maybe go about it. (If this all makes sense.) This makes for a great inventive forum in my opinion.
Anyway... I'm in for a bunch of these cards but think we should keep looking! Also... For those of you who are up for it... There is a hck on hackaday.com on how to do this with a regular USB card. -
TB, I hope you are referring to the guy who sold GSXR his computer and not me!
Any way I will have the arrival date probably today. First come to the good folks who share here, then to the people who ask for cards in their first post ever if you get my drift. I didn't go crazy on the first order as I have never sent a big hunk of change by wire to someone I didn't know before. Guys, put on your thinking caps as these do not come with drivers, my D-Link cards can be a little touchy on T'books. I believe MS has a driver for the NEC chip set up on their web site. The price will be what it is, I don't know if Uncle Sugar will have his hand out at the border or not. I aint in it for the money.
-
I wouldn't mind having at least ONE of them as well, thank you veddy much!
-
You contribute to the group. The guy I'm thinking of did not do much other than ask questions. -
I received my laptop(long story, check other thread). I have the PCMCIA USB adapter that you're talking about here, in the box. There is no sku # on, but the part# is BC168, made by AKE(China). I surfed for a while, looking for info. I guess it IS only available direct from China. Doh!
-
Yes... I saw the part number on the USB cards too... I looked it up and only pages from Chine popped up. Translation only goes so far. The average page found???
"We have lovely USB card yes for sale. Working goodly in your laptop or hers. Please email Hung Chow more information for."
If I can't find one I'll end up maing one. -
You should get up on that box once in a while. When you see some of the crap and some of the weird listings which tell you everything you "could" have with your Toughbook and then tell you what you really get in the fine print! I guess PT Barnum was right, but it must hurt to put in as much effort as you do and then have people soured on spending the long bucks when they get the kind of mess I saw in the picture posted here the other day.

I'd understand if you didn't as nbreview may not be the appropriate place for it, but with the enthusiasm you and others have for the idea, I thought I would ask.
In an ironic way, I'm glad I haven't been around to see the shmucks others describe here. Maybe I was introduced to the forum at an awkward time, but the sharp opinions surprise me.
A friend of mine had an expression about a non-profit, service group to which I used to belong. He said the group was much like a self-cleaning oven, where the phonies eliminated themselves over time... that those who were there to exclusively serve their own needs eventually left. Maybe that happens here. Maybe even on eBay eventually it happens to sellers there too.
Seems, at the end of the day, if people are given the benefit of the doubt and noobs are given a chance, any forum can thrive. And, from that noobs perspective, if the forum has contributors such as mnm, maybe even have a laugh while doing so.
Appreciate your guidance, TB. -
Hey Modly - this is up your alley - just need to trim down the circuit board and bammo - piece of cake for you -
Just had this conversation with my brother the other day - he bought a double PCMIA to USB at circuit city and of course took it apart before he even used it to see if it could be trimmed down - he was hoping for a ribbon but was a circuit board, a simple one he said that would probably be pretty easy to cut down for an experienced person - focused on other thing right now but it will make it back to the top of the list eventually -
Toughbook I love it when you are on your soapbox - should do a weekly soapbox address kinda like the radio update the president used to do in the old days - Keeps those of use true the forum charged up - Love you man. -
GSXR, Does the thing work? Can you tell if there are any drivers loaded for it or does XP know what it is without drivers? I have some PCMCIA USB2 cards and they aren't very stable in toughbooks, I don't know if it's drivers or the cards themselves. They do need proprietary drivers loaded to work. The AKE seems to be a re-brand which the maker offers on relatively small quantities. (Hmm, "Dragon Brand", snarf!) The Chinese have acknowledged receipt of my money, I hope to have a tracking number today.
-
I would not worry about any would be compettitors using your info to compete against you. As I see it, it is not the shareware and hacks that sell your laptops but rather the knowladge that your getting a good working product that is running at it's max potntial and ready to use out of the box with good support. Anyone can cobble together anything, but it's the follow through that keeps customers. So just give them the rope and waite for them to hang themselves with it. -
Yes... I have already seen a few hang themselves... Them come on asking questions but never made ANY suggestions to/for the group. They burned out or whatever and are not here or ebay anymore.
I guess the feedback will eventually catch up with the poseurs... Time will tell. -
UPDATE: Well, after 4 days of wondering about Chinese scams I got a tracking number from DHL. The cards left Hong Kong at 7 PM last night which I think is 7AM this morning their time. I assume they are on a plane not a boat. I think the first order is already over subscibed, but all the regulars here will be taken care of. Hopefully Uncle Sugar won't slow things down looking for his pound of flesh. If it works out I'll get more, or pass the torch to someone who wants to take over and sell them on that site which will be nameless.
-
How many did you order? And how much was it?

Update:
DHL has the cards leaving Ohio around 1AM this morning. I guess that means I'll see them tomorrow. Now, if my least favorite forwarding company doesn't pull their usual 3 days to get them from the truck to my front door trick, I'll be able to contact all you anxious buyers before the weekend so you can start sending money. There will be enough to go around on this first order unless you want a bunch to sell. I had to throw a not insignificant amount of dough into Communist China (They're not our friends you know, regardless of what the nit-wits in Washington tell us.) via Western Union on faith so I didn't go nuts. I'll PM all interested parties when they get here. -
In case we don't say it, thanks for going out on a limb for us.
Pappy -
If there are any left over, and you are willing to sell to a noob here, I would like to have two. One so I can take it apart and see if I can make it smaller..
There should be at least one person on here that can vouch for me!
Thanks,
Bill -
Again, thanks for getting into this! Looking forward to trying this out.
-
They're here! They came in retail packaging with a driver disk and a cable which plugs into the center of the card on one end and a usb plug on the other, I think that's for running external drives. I'm trying to decipher the english as written by a chinaman. There seems to be a special install procedure for notebooks which I have just printed out and will try to "groc" (anyone remember that one?). I'll try to figure out the best (cheapest) way to ship them in their little boxes, I thought they would come in bulk packaging. I'm really beat tonight, but I will try to figure out everyone who has expressed interest and PM each and every one to confirm their wants and will give pricing then. I'd like to keep the pricing on PM's so I don't screw myself if I decide to sell some on eBay. Thanks for your patience.
-
Awsome, patiently awaiting a PM. :-D
