I picked up a CF-28. The code on the bottom says CF-28MBFAZDM(the website didn't work so I could not look up all the details). It has windows 2000 installed and has a 2000 sticker on the bottom. The ram is 256 and the hard drive is 30gb I believe.

When I turn the machine on the screen is really dark and for a split second I get a brighter screen with a trace of red tint to it. After the laptop boots up fully the screen is really too dark to even use. Some people have told me that it might be the inverter or the bulb. However the screen is also doing some strange other things. It looks like the screen has stains on it from the inside. If I open the lid up when the power is on the outside of the screen is darker than the inside and after a while the darkness fills the entire screen. I really can't find the words to describe it. It just looks messed up. Thanks for any help. Would anyone have a good link for a new/used replacement screen and how to replace the inverter bulb.

The red means the backlight bulb is going/gone. You can sometimes postpone having to replace it or the LCD by replacing just the inverter that the LCD plugs into but it's only a patch and may not work. Your cheapest bet is to replace the bulb and there's a topic that covers that already, though I don't have the link. You really should replace both the bulb and inverter but it's your choice.

Can someone please tell me where to buy the parts. I have been looking for a while and only find ones that cost 50-80 bucks and the mod around here said that I can find one way cheaper. I need a 12" inverter.
