I have just purchased a CF28PBJAZEM BIOS=V2.00L13 w/256MB onboard memory. I purchased additional 256MB Edge memory (4 memo units 1 side) and is recognized when installed, but things crash, (browser, virus check, defrag). This is XP pro w/SP3. I have run the Microsoft Windows memory diagnostic & the mem86 from http://www.memtest.org/ and both show error free memory, but when I add this 256MB everything continues the crash scene.
I have looked around here and see this model should take up to 768MB. Should I buy a 512MB brick and try that? Can someone suggest what brand and whether ECC memory is required? Thanks for any suggestions. I'm about try-dis, try-dat'ed OUT.
Everything works fine in this laptop, even the touch screen (don't know what it's used for), the wireless addin card too. I just need some memory.

I have a cf28 pdf manual that came with it as well, if someone needs a copy.
cf28.pdf 2,915kb
CF-28 Service (repair) manual.pdf 13,720kb Too big to mail, needs to be split
There are other assorted folders and parts info too.

The cf-28's that I have had have had issues with ram upgrades, I have wasted a lot of money on 256 and 512mb chips that were not compatable
Kingston Brand 512mb KTM-TP133/512 is compatable

On my Cf-28 I tried 5 different types of memory sticks then did a search on here.Their has been a lot of talk on here about how fussy they are so save yourself some time and money. Buy the Kingston Brand 512mb KTM-TP133/512 like I did. Never had a problem since

Also if you upgrade the hard drive to a 7200 rpm models you should see a big difference. A lot of us use the Hitachi 7200 rpm models . Check out the CF-28 F.A.Q. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=210510 . A lot of great info.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like Kingston memory is in order. Thanks for the tips on 7200 drives. I always buy Hitachi replacement drives, glad someone else thinks they are quality. The original Hitachi are IBM and I never have had one go South in many years of service. I have a 160 & 80 gb Hitachi drives laying around & I'll dust off the CD backup / recovery software and get a CD drive.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

The 7200rpm Hitachi drives (IDE) only go up to 100GB that I know of... And they don't sell them new anymore... So you'll need to scrounge a used one in good shape. They do make a big difference in the CF-28...
