I just read this thread for another reason, and am curious:
I have a cf29 mk1 with 13.3" touch screen. Can I add a functioning light sensor that goes under the hole in that pic of that thread? I usemy 29 in the car all day and into the evening. I think it would be cool to autodim at night.
TIA!

I know the 12" screen uses this feature. I just didin' know if it could be added to the 13" screen. -
That's another reason you need my CF-29C w/sensor in the screen.
Does it work? IONO. (three syllables)

Or you could search all the specs on the 2 lcd's and see if they use the same voltages etc... -
The problem with that is that it works backwards of the way you want on the transflective (12") screen. On that model, it has no effect in dark or inside lighting, but turns the backlight OFF in direct sunlight, while at the same time triggering a high-contrast gamma profile for the LCD to enhance viewability with only transflected (light which passes through the front of the LCD, bounces off the silvery coating behind it, then back to your eyes) sunlight.
You CAN, I'm sure, use a CdS cell in conjunction with a multiple op-amp with inverting input to combine the signals into one usable control signal the same way Ohlip used one to invert the control voltage for his LED illumination project.

Thanks Mnem!
I'm on the road right now, so wouldn't have had time to look at the schema.
that's a good idea with the photocell.... I've got too much goin on. When I get back off the road, I have to mod/install
1)the toshiba BT dongle on cn52
2)bend a new caddy for my sata drive (and of course, load all my crap up)
3)attempt to repack the GBIII battery
4)mod in a usb HSPDA modem
5)and I just scooped up the wireless switch for the left of the handle....I have to do something with it. My intent is to use it as a reset/on/off switch for my gps/BT and indicator for.....something, I dunno.
The back light mod will get added to the end of that list.
Thanks! -
Since Dell's ATG and XFR were mentioned in another thread nobody should flame me too bad for mentioning them here. I only bring them up because they have an ambient light sensor that you might look at. I have no idea if voltage or input polarity would be an issue, but they do exactly what you want. The keyboard backlight turns on when it gets dark and the screen dims. At least look at it for "creative inspiration". Why not, Dell copied the whole damn Toughbook with only a few cool extras like the light sensor.
