    Its been a while guys, but, I'm back ... with a CF-29 ;)

    Bought a non-Touch CF-29.

What does it take to add touch?

Just the digitizing cover and cable assembly?

    Thanks,
    Glen

some of the guys on this forum advertise on ebayy for touchscreen assembly for 88.00 I believe TechTough might be one, check with Toughbook as he can surely give advice here(don't call me Shirley). I picked up a cf-29 parts laptop that had a working TS and just swapped out the whole assembly, some went for 38 up to 90 bucks. Just got lucky on those. The TS worked on the cf-29 mk 4-5 that would allow the 2GB ram upgrade and of course any of the other cf-29's. I loaded the panasonic restore disc for the appropriate model number for touchscreen. That has the drivers needed and I'll have to do this for one of the Mk4's cf-29L3L or L3V's that I've upgraded to TS. You may just need to load the needed driver to existing OS. It worked anyway but no icon to pull up the TS calibration adjustment to true it in. Hope this helps.............Welcome back and Happy New Year.....Driller

Is this a non-touch or did the seller call it a non-touch . It just might be a touch but not working. Please post your full model number CF-29 ???????

Best to buy a complete lid from a mk-1 thats working , there is a couple of require parts needed and it's a bit of work to replace panels

As my Sig indicates, I was heavy into the CF-28, this is going to be my first 29 =O

So you're the one who bought that one out from under me! ;)

Check it out before "cannibalizing" it; I feel it is probably servicable.

good choice, if the lid on backside with logo on your unit is in better shape, just swap 'em. hopefully the lcd is in as good a shape as the original. just to make sure it still works just plug in the cable connectors first with the hinges just sitting on the base without putting all back together first. If worky, then reassemble the whole shootin' match. I've lucked out on some ugly SBC screens as far as the back lid was scratched up terrible, but the lcd and touchscreen and inside was in good shape. switch in the better looking latch as well. you can sometimes get a good deal with hdd caddy off SBC unit and parts cheaper than just individual parts. of course you knew that.............Driller

PS, that particular laptop retailed for about 6200.00 as far as configurator says

    Sorry TC, yup, me =O
I'm sure its serviceable, but I just want the Touch ...
I'll replace it with the non-touch (or if I find a deal, another touch), get a caddy and drive for that one.
I just got the first one ... man its a beauty, under 500 operating hours, its mint!

Close: SBC originally stood for Southwestern Bell Corporation.

In 1995 it became SBC Communications.

It has ultimately "morphed" into at&t.

You mean morphed BACK INTO AT&T... Remember, they were one one of the "Baby Bells" that AT&T got busted up into in 1984.

    mnem
    AT&T... wwe'll be a monopoly again... SOON.

And even before the question is asked:

at&t originally stood for American Telephone & Telegraph Company.

The "lineage" of Alexander Graham Bell's companies:

Bell Telephone Company → National Bell Telephone Company → American
Bell Telephone Company → AT&T (ABTC subsidiary; as they were identified in 1885).

SBC Communications merged with AT&T in 2005 and took the name at&t, Inc.

Southwestern Bell itself was formed in 1920 as a part of "The Bell System." It was "split off" in 1983.

And I'd love to have one of the at&t logo decals to replace the SBC one on my primary CF-29HTM50BM. :D

Yep, I know. I have ancestry what was telegraph operators for Eastern Seaboard Standard Oil.

I REFUSE to use the new "Diminutive" AT&T logo myself; the absolute cynicism of using non-threatening lower case text under a stylized image of their primary goal, the entire WORLD, is not lost on me.

They are now, and always will be, the same megaconglomerate BLEEPbags that were AT&T. A shiny new logo doesn't change that one bit.

No matter what color you paint that tvrd; it's still gonna stink.

Did the swap, Touch and BT work fine.
The Touch is very clean, minimal wear, and the silver is in great shape.
The 2GB Crucial SODIMM is on order.
    I'm very pleased.

    As for the donor book:
I bought one of those caddy's that Sam is selling.
I've got some hard drives, ordered a power supply, and will buy a battery.
    So, I'll have a 2nd 29 for not much $$.

    All is well ;)
