    Hi all,

I have a CF-29 and seem to be having an issue. My charge light started blinking, the battery will not charge. I purchased a new battery and i'm still having the same issue.

    Any recommendations?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    What color is it flashing?
Where did you get the new battery?

One thing to check is that you don't have a bad pin....where the battery drops in. That connector is pretty easy to change. The third or fourth time. :) Possibly a loose solder joint, wiggle the pins and definitely remove reset cables.
    But answer Shawn first.

    Hi,

I'm new to this forum also but have a similar problem. Blinking RED led no matter what battery is in. I can't recalibrate the battery either. I did some troubleshooting using the rev E schematic (I have a MK4 CF-29) and I'm inclined to believe that either something is the matter with the charging circuitry or the fuse, F4 is bad. One thing that I did notice is that the battery charging led, Yellow, goes on for approximately 1 minute before it switches to flashing RED. My guess is that the intelligent circuitry tries to turn the charger on but doesn't get info back from the battery indicating it is accepting current.

So, my question is does anyone know where F4 is located?

    Thanks in advance.

Here is a FWIW picture. Granted this is a MK2 board but may lend a clue. I believe the circled objects are fuses. The N?
I may be wrong on this and would appreciate correction. There is another over near the pcmcia area. Couldn't find it on this quick trip. Also note the yellow printing on the board.
There is a letter A near one, letter B near another and F5 has a line and arrow pointing at the fuse. I'll see how this posts and then edit in a second.

Edit: Upper left is F4...next to the white plug....note the letter B with a line leading to the fuse...hard to see in the pic..visible with 8 power goggles. The lower left has a letter A on the board.

    And above that you see B F4 N 2A and A F6 N 2A printed on the board. Those fuses they refer to (see the A and B near the fuses)have an N on them. Gimee a sec and I'll post F2 T 5A and F3 T 5A???
Hummm seems to be a system here.

To repeat this is a MK2 board. I peered in a MK3 I had the plate off of under the keyboard. Same system there.

    Hi,

Yes, I'm quite certain both battery packs are good...not new, but adequate.
I was hoping to find a fuse in the general area of the charger chip or battery connector without removing the main board but it looks like Panasonic didn't make it easy:-(

Thanks for posting the picture. I'll take a few of my own when I find the time to disassemble the unit. It's almost worth rebuilding the battery pack with high capacity NiMh batteries and avoiding the intelligent charging scheme.

If I remember correctly, these little guys are shunts/fusible links in the main B+ supply which can open as a result of a massive current draw from a battery, or reverse polarity on an AC adapter. I'd check them too. I'm not positive, but I think you'll find similar on the ground side too, to isolate the power supply from the load in case of catastrophic failure.

    Every little bit helps...

I'm sorry...I have to say it..... Awesome! Thanks M.

Where do you think the fuse failure for the touchscreen is happening. CF-29 and CF-30. More on this in a new thread soon.

What... did y'all scope that out and it was the problem, or are ya just sayin' "Good eye there, dude!"?

Very interested in what anyone finds out about this... I have a MK2 that doesn"t light up any leds and I'm hoping there's a fuse I can replace. Even if it is SMT...

    I did find a resistor w/no throughput.....double checking that when I find my bi-focals.

I am having the same issue with a Toughbook CF-29 MK3. Did this get resolved by repairing the B+ shunts?

This thread is over 3 years old and the OP never came back to let us know. It might be best if you start a new thread and let us know what your 29 is doing.
