Each cf 29 chip will take about a 10mm square piece of thermal material.
Early units have 2 chips and later ones have 3.
So, to do one cf29 you will need 10mm by 30mm thermal material.

I don't own a cf30. so I can't help on that one.

I haven't had mine apart yet, no reason too except to put the GPS I have into it this time home. But here is a shot of the motherboard and heatsink to give you an idea.

So only one chip in the CF30 requires heatsinking?

Normally you need at least 2. One for the CPU and one for the GPU. It looks like they put the GPU on one side of the motherboard and the CPU on the other.

Last week I did get my first Toughbook - a CF-29 MK4 with 1.6Ghz (CF-29L3Q71BE).
After a few hours of useage I found out that my CF-29 is getting to hot because when playing a video on youtube it was around 90 degree celsius :-( (65 degree celsius when in idle mode)
After searching and finding this thread I decided to get some new thermal pads for my Toughbook.
Because Iam in Germany I couldnt find here the
Fujipoly Premium System Builder Thermal Pad - Full Sheet - 150 x 100 x 1.5 - Thermal Conductivity 6.0 W/mK
frozencpu.com did want around 35$ postage for the pads? that was to much for me ;-)
I did found some other thermal pad on eBay Germany:
phobya Thermal Pad XT - Sheet - 100 x 100 x 1.5 - Thermal Conductivity 7.0 W/mK
After 2 days the Sheet did arrive and I used a Guide from ifixit to open the bottom of my Toughbook.
I removed the 2 old pads, cleaned the surfaces on the cpu/cpu and the cooler.
Then I applied new pads to the cpu and gpu (because the pads arent adhesive) and closed the case with the screws.
The first start was a successIt did start around 38-40 degree celsius and after some working time it will remain at 50-15 degree celsius...
Viewing a 360er Youtube-Video will bring the Toughbook to arounf 57- max 68 degree celsius.
With this art of cooling the GPU and CPU wouldnt throotled and did play the video without getting stuck
The thermal pad is much to bigand did cost around 24EUR. Now I got pad for around 8 to 10 Toughbooks
BUT is was woth buying the sheeet because my Toughbook is now running strong
