    Model: CF-29FWTGZKM
    Configurator info:
    **FEDERAL ONLY**PentiumM1.3G LV, 13.3Transmissive Touch XGA ,256MB,40GB, NON-WIRELESS, WinXP,SmartCard, Backlit keyboard

This CF-29 did not have the WiFi antennae or the mini-PCI card installed - so I bought an OEM 'kit' off eBay that included the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG, antennae/cables and end caps (which don't seem any different than the ones I already had...).

I've been looking around on the forums here and can't find any related information so far.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how the coax cables are supposed to route through this thing the right way. I found one picture that made it look like they route under the keyboard. I also can't figure out how they route through the cable chase in the middle - where the main cable for the LCD routes through on its way to the mobo.

Also - since I had the back cover off the screen - two little white plastic widgets fell out and now I can't seem to figure out where they are supposed to go and how they are supposed to be positioned. Lucky me. :)

Any help anyone could provide would be most appreciated. This is a great site!

I got it all back together and running. Getting the coax + existing LCD cable bundle through the rubber grommet was a pain in the neck...but I got it.

No more PCMCIA card needed and I installed built-in WLAN for $20 and a few hours work...sweet. I'm really pleasantly surprised at how nice that service .pdf is...it was a big help in routing the coax cables for the antennae.

XP SP3 was able to find the right driver for it without any intervention from me at all, but I still upgraded to a newer Intel driver.

    Thanks!

You're not kidding. I'm floored by all of the great posts about these oldie but goodie CF-29's.

Since I took mine all apart and put it back together, now it is doing the mouse pointer jump to the bottom deal from excess crud accumulation pushing on the touchscreen digitizer. No worries - I read all about how to solve that problem here on the forums!

This CF-29 is my first, but I just might be a Toughbook customer for life. I'm really impressed with how well built these things are.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Yep now that the 29 is working, once I get antennas for the wifi card another one will surface.

Thanks for the welcome - glad to be here!

According to the configurator, my CF-29 went for nearly $4900. Ouch. I'll have to keep on buying well used ones off eBay.

It would be nice to have a little more CPU/RAM (I have 1GB/160GB now)...better start saving my pennies. :)

    Cheers,

    Matt
