The Fn+ doesn't seem to work on my CF-29. Any suggestions?

The seller that you bought it from have any sort of guarantee on it? Sounds like it's got a few issues, and they don't sound like Time magazine.

Oh, and which keyboard is it? (Black, rubber, hard backlit, beige).

The keys are dark gray and are individual keys. I think it's supposed to be backlit, but that doesn't appear to work either.

Backlit keyboards are easily identified by the white line on the spacebar and the symbol for brightness on the F12 key. If those charachteristics arent there it is not a backlit keyboard.

The fn keys will not work until you install the Hot key driver installing this has been discussed here numerous times so you may want to try searching for it.

I still say that you should can the pirated XP and try to find a Panasonic recovery disk. This wil solve most if not all your problems.

    Good luck

It's not necessarily pirated. You can use an OEM install disc with the valid XP license, it just won't have the drivers, and since a recovery disc is hard to find, I'd rather just manually install the drivers.

I'm not sure if I agree the hotkey driver is the problem, but it's worth trying to install it. Reason being is that I can adjust my keyboard and display brightness in the BIOS.

Try installing the driver I suppose.

Does your keyboard have a solid white line on the spacebar?

No, the space bar/F12 key has no indicators, so I was wrong about the the backlit. Thanks.

I downloaded hkey app, hkey set, and hkey drivers. When I was messing around in the device manager last night, I uninstalled the yellow question mark unknown device again. This morning when I booted up; I got the found new hardware wizard and eventually got it to load those downloads. Now the Fn key works fine.

I appreciate you folks being patient with my lack of knowledge.

The CF-29 does not have Hokkey support at the BIOS level like the CF-28 and earlier models. They require the Hkey driver be loaded for the Fn keys to work at all.
