Ive owned this CF-29 laptop for about a week and can not get the fn keys to work. I have the chicklet backlit keyboard that came with it and the only Fn key that works is the FN 12 for the lighted keyboard. All the others do not work except when in Bios I can get the screen brightness keys to work, but when in windows xp nothing but keyboard light works. Ive tryed searching this forum and only thing I found is the Hotkey driver but it shows up in the start menu but nothing works.

This is a common issue if restore disks have not been used
Looks like you will need to reinstall the drivers
Look in device manager for issues
Do you have a folder in C called utilitys

First things first: when seeking assistance with problems with a Toughbook you will get better answers quicker when you identify the unit you have by its Model Number; such as CF-29xxxxxxx, in the first posting.

With most Models the number will be on the bottom of the unit: all Models will display the Model Number in the BIOS ( <F2> while the Panasonic screen is displayed during boot-up).

I dont really understand that diagram considering Im an idiot when it comes to this stuff. I dont see other devices or unknown devices or "?" under device manager. Everything looks correct I think but I did find 2 keyboards listed in Device Manager. "HID Keyboard Device" and " Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard. I tried updating both drivers at the DM from the utility folder/Driver/Hotkey and it said can not find a better driver.

If i was to purchase the recovery cds for the laptop is that every driver i would need? If i ever have to reinstall windows then having all the drivers in one spot would be perfect

    Yes
The restore disks make it easy
You will need to update to sp3
All the drivers are installed, window update will recomend 2 new hardware updates, one for your network card and one for the wireless

And it will only take about 25 minutes to load windows and all the drivers and you are done....well almost. Like Alex said windows update SP3. Check out this ToughBook Buy Sell and Trade Forum for someone selling the 3 PK restore disk once you have 15 posts so you can PM them

Not trying to hijack as I have same issue. My LT is a CF-29ENKNXKM. I just did a fresh rebuild of the hard drive and I now have same issues. I can find all drivers except getting the Fn Keys to work.

The hotkey driver is updated through the device manager
It will show up as a unknown device, and you need to direct the unknown device to look for the driver in the place you have extracted the hotkey driver
Usualy C:utilitys2/drivers/hotkey on a regular windows install

I know this is an older thread but I have an issue. I did everything mentioned in this post, used the right drivers for MK5 CF-29. Everything loaded and I don't have anything that says unknown devices besides VGA adapter (still can't get a graphics driver loaded uhhh.).

    This is what I have: hkeyapp_29_5d050640, hkeyset_29_5_d030477, hotkey_29_5d051107.

I can't find anything that says hotkey or anything in the drivers. Closest thing is ACPI fixed feature button.

Thanks again guys! oh my model is CF29N with windows 7 ultimate.

This is a discussion on getting the hot keys to work with XP. You need to find the threads for Win 7 on the CF-29.
