    Hi All,
Just thought I would show the almost finished GPS sled that I've been working on.
I've used an sb-555 card sled for the gps. This is different from my first design which fizzed my em-408. This uses 5 volt to 3.3 volt regulator. It has a switch on the outside with indication led for on or off.

    Cheers

ooh very nice! i was going to try something similar with my Holux GPSlim 236, but I haven't had the time to do anything yet.

The Holux has an external antenna connector, uses USB (so 5v) and I have the serial-USB cable that I plan to take apart so I don't have to depend on Bluetooth.

    Hi Canuckcam,
Cheers, the only problem I found is the soldering of cables .I had to buy a light magnifying glass so I could see the cable. I expect the same is for the cables on the usb. It was already bad enough when I was younger and the televisions had valves.lol
    cheers

Second.... You don't get off THAT easy! We needs specs and schematics! We've been talking about making the outside switch operational for a while. I haven't tried the sled route but I'd like to... Please post the needed stuff when you get the chance.

    Hi TB,
CHeers. So first I'm waiting for my new em-408 to test this, the old one still works but just sends 2.85 volts out instead of a fluctuating voltage. Second I'll give a clue, its not using pin 29 on cn18 and as for parts my old pushbike light had to donate his switch. Oh before I forget, the old em-408 worked.I got 11 birds ,8 with 38 signal using sarantel external antenna. I think it was the on and off switching that flicked it up, This time everything gets 3.27 volts. When tested then I'll let u know (waiting for usps).
    more later

    cheers

    Hi All,
Attached is the schematic of my GPS sled.Im not very good in electronics so most of the info was attained off the internet. I have not tested it fully but at the moment it is very promising. If you decide to try this then at your own risk in fact if it is wrong then let me know so I dont fizz my next em-408.

    Hi All,
Just thought I would let you know that after testing for a month by switch on and off I am happy to report no problems with this build. I even brought microsofts autoroute and I am impressed. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the guys involved in development of this project. For example ,ohlip,tb,onrakiss,modly,mnementh,doobi,zippy-man and anyone Ive forgotten. It just goes to show a complete village like me can take apart and reassemble a toughbook. Cheers guys
