    Hi,

I plan to upgrade to a CF-30 in the future when the prices drop, mainly because of the SATA HD and 1000nit LCD. This will allow me 7200rpm HD in 250gb+ size and Daylight readable viewing, not to mention faster speed and more ram. lol.

But I remember reading somewhere that the CF-30 uses alot of the same accessories, is that true or does it use a totally different sled system?

I know DVD and Battery are different.

I can tell you, for sure, that a GPS only sled from a CF-29 will not work in a CF-30. Give me a few days and I can check to see if a CF-29 HSDPA sled will work in a CF-30.

The GPS will not work in the CF-30... Different connections and pinouts... On the CF-30 the engine is below the keyboard and the antenna is mounted atop the LCD...

Bummer. atleast the did the lid antenna. took them long enough to notice its a better location. Japan was never known for their creativity, Godzilla was a US creation. But they are great at copying. lol

So it's safe to say the ebaY™ seller's ad referenced above is `incorrect.'

But it will fit the CF-29; correct?

That is a WWAN card... Not GPS. The sled slot connector doesn't have GPS connections according to the schematic.

EDIT: Plus some of the modems for the CF-30 will only retrofit into the MK5 CF-29... Not sure about the referenced one above.

So, just because one has HSDPA installed does not mean it's GPS-capable; correct?

Don't know if this has been mentioned before - if you get a CF-30 with the Gobi 3G modem (usually mk3), the Gobi modem has inbuilt GPS. Well, that applies to any Toughbook with a Gobi modem.

It's not as accurate as the "proper Panasonic" GPS option, but it's reasonable enough for driving navigation.
