Hello, I am new to this forum and glad to have found it! I have a CF-29 mk1 with factory GPS ( imo). I have done a clean install of XP-PRO and every thing looks good in the device manager, except the GPS doesn't show up at all. I didn't find any drivers on the Panasonic support site either.
I did look through old threads, but didn't find any posts about the drivers. I might have missed them, though.
I did have to disable com2 to keep the mouse pointer from 'jumping' when I enabled the GPS in bios. My machine has the touchpad/touch screen, no ball point mouse.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help!

If it is anything like the factory GPS on my CF-19, then no driver is required. Rather, the GPS is accessed by the COM port (usually port 3 I believe). GPS-based applications then need to get told which COM port to use.
But hopefully someone with more knowledge will show up soon. -
There are no drivers for the GPS it will be on COM2 for a MK1 cf-29.
Make sure the GPS is enables in the bios then open a GPS program and set the com to 2 then the buad rate to 4800 i believe. Let it sit in the open (clear sky) and it will eventually grab a signal.
There is only one thing you need to install for th GPS which is a registry patch to avoid the mouse jumping all over the screen.
Use the CF-29 FAQ to get the link to the driver download page and download the GPS patch and install it.

You "MAY" have to install drivers to get the stock GPS to work... I can't remember what MK model that started or stopped with... Yes... read the CF-2FAQ and you can register at Panasonic for all the drivers you need. They are all here...

If the first to the fifth com port used by other device or have some conflict you can assign any available com port for the gps to make it to work. I have one system that display on the device magr. that doen't have a yellow mark but it has conflict with the gps. You can verify that to its com port properties. The gps com port that I mentioned now is at com port 9. Weird, eh!
It is depending on your setup.

Your mistake was to disable com2 as that is your GPS. You should have disabled the serial ball point mouse instead. This is a common problem that has been extensively discussed here.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Sorry I haven't been able to get back to this thread until today! I am going to try some of these suggestions tomorrow. Ohlip, there isn't a ball point mouse on this machine, just a touchpad/ touchscreen. I had to disable the com 2 to keep the mouse from going erratic when the gps was enabled in bios! I saw another thread today and will read it next. I hope to have this working soon!

You don't disable any com ports
You need to , in device manager under mouse and pointing devices ,disable the microsoft serial ballpoint mouse that is causing the curser to jump around when your gps is enabled

I have a 29mkIV and I had to install a GPS driver. You can find all the drivers, for all marks of the 29, here. Once installed, it will show up in your device manager under System Devices>Panasonic GPS Filter Driver. And as already stated, you do not disable any com ports. BTW, mine shows up as com3, not com2 or com4.

ok,I installed MS streets and trips, went to device manager and enabled com 2, and the gps worked! Then when I rebooted and windows loaded, the erratic mouse was back. I disabled the gps in bios and rebooted, opened the device manager and went to mice and pointeing devices and the only device is the ps2 mouse.
I will try the gps driver Doobi gave the link to. Any other help is appreciated! -
Yes, there is a very great writeup on the sticky mouse/GPS problem. Do a search from google, and just follow the results that include our forum, it is a way better search engine than NBR's. You will find it eventually. It will solve your issue in a matter of minutes!
Ah, forget the search, I found it for you here. Let us know if it works... -
Thanks for the link. I will be back to post my progress after I try the fix!

Okay... You keep disabling things so the Serial Ballpoint won't show... What you need to do is while everything is enabled AND you then have the jumping mouse... Go into Device Manager to find Serial Ballpoint under Mouse properties. Then you can disable it. There was also a great tip on how to make it unload prior to XP even starting.
Now that I think about it... You shouldn't even have the jumping mouse issue with the CF-29... That was on the CF-28 that was setup for Win2000. Then when people loaded XP the mouse started jumping. There are also a few GPS driver patches for the CF-29 you may want to try. They are on Panny's site. -
I had the jumping mouse issue on one of the GPS CF-29's I just bought. Downloaded and installed the patch from Panny and it immediately went away.

This info is going to make life much better! I probably wouldn't have a problem if the laptop I bought had come with the correct restore disks. It was a new, open box purchase, but the restore disks are for a Mark 2!
I have found more answers and resources here than at Panasonic tech support.
Thanks to all for the help and suggestions. -
Here is what I did yesterday: first I edited the boot.ini file as suggested in another thread; then downloaded and installed the gprs.exe file and the gpsfilter to the same folder; enabled the gps in bios and booted to windows, NO jumping mouse! In MS streets and trips I configured the gps to com2 and all is well and working now.
Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions and links.
