Good day all,
Is there a hardware scan tool or something for the toughbooks?
I have about 50 of these cf-29's right now and I can't tell wether there is gps or celular or what not.
The model number on them is CF29HTQGZBM ( some have a - G at the end )
I loaded one with XP Pro and installed what devices I saw there however, I am lead to beleive this might have GPS considering where they came from ( was from a Paramedics dispatch unit ).
Could the gps have been in the car dock or something?
Also I guess I should point that there is no gps option inthe bios I can see.....is that a good indication that there is no gps on the units?
Thank You

Here is a good resource from a sister site managed by a member of this forum. CF-29 ToughWiki
Looking at the model number you have, it does not appear that they had GPS or cellular installed by the factory. Oddly enough, the third to last digit is missing the Z option in the table, but that is "none installed" on another source. -

Indeed google is a friend, but sometimes your friends give bad advice
I am just getting conflicting info from what is suppose to be in here and what is in here and I am unable to find out wether anyone made upgrades or changes to the units.
Accroding to the chart on the wiki these should have floppies.....only 3-4 do and the rest have combo drives. should have an 80 gb hdd and 512 mb of ram...these all have 1 GB of ram and the slot underneath is empty so they did not quickly upgrade them.
I was just looking for a good start point to figure out what is and is not installd.
From that chart these show to be a MK3 model so if there was gps installed by panasonic would there be a gps optoin in the bios and a driver loaded in windows? -

Most of these older laptops will have some variance from the factory build, especially with the easy fit type parts. The floppy drive is easy to explain as they are about a 20 second swap with a CD unit. Memory can be quickly added as you already mentioned, but I find it very interesting that they would have 1GB with the bottom slot empty. There was a very rare configuration on the CF-28 like this (custom ordered originally IIRC) but this would be the first I have heard of CF-29s with 1GB built-in. Hard drives are a little harder than a standard laptop to swap, but very commonly upgraded as well.
GPS is possible to add aftermarket, but is fairly rare except with customized machines like several of us around here have. Most corporate users would have probably taken the route of an external USB GPS attached to the dock. -

CF-29HTQGZBM configure out as:
H = Mk3 1.4 GHz LV Centrino
T = 13.3" XGA Touch Screen
Q = 80GB HD & 512MB Base RAM
G = 3½" Floppy Disk Drive, 10/100 Ethernet
Z = No upgrades (GPS, WWAN, etc.)
B = Windows XP Professional w/Service Pack 2
M = U.S.A distribution -
Well I think for the most part I am gonna just assume there is no gps
I might look into adding gps to one of them for myself. Awesome notebooks....I had heard alot about toughbooks before but didn't pay much attention. I must say these are worth every penny they cost brand new.
Onto troubleshooting the touchscreen now....seems most won't calibrate or even sense a touch on the screen.
Thank You for your links and info everyone...I'm sure I'll be back again with questions answered countless times over -

I have a few units with just the CF29HTQGZBM and these models come up with only 512 MB.
The rest that come up with 1 GB have a - G
So the model ( wich is a white sticker over top of the panasonic gray sticker )
Says CF29HTQGZBM-G. -

I still find it very odd they would have opted for more memory then the gps at least.
Either way...most of the touchscreens don't seem to be working so they'll be going as cheap notebooks I think -

Not sure if you noticed or not but right now there is a lot on fleabay now very cheap and you say most of yours have non working touch...that will be a hard sell. I have seen them for $125.00 to $150.00 shipped (with HDD caddy) or $42.00 -$88.00 ( no caddy)

After an extensive search, I found these CF-29s OEM'd with 1GB base (integrated onboard) RAM:
CF-29LASGZBM and CF-29LTSGZBM (Mk4) and CF-29NTSGZBM (Mk5)
Of course, there may be more. -
Good day,
Well I am not familiar with toughbooks.
Most I have seen were busted up P2's and now I have these.
There is no S in the model number. Full number is CF29HTQGZBM-G
Now a few of them are not -G and they only have the 512MB of ram.
I would say these are an MK3 as I have run the bios updates with the mk3 and it worked.....would it still work if its not an mk3? -

H = Mk3 Intel Pentium M 738 1.4 GHz LV (Centrino) processor
T = 13.3" XGA Touch Screen
Q = 80GB HD & 512MB RAM
G = Floppy, Ethernet
Z = No Integrated Options
B = Windows XP Pro SP2
M = North American distribution
-G = ???

What is it you are saying no to?

Well....I hate feeling like a nob sometimes.
Whatever the case may be these do only have 512 MB onboard memory.
I must have been woking too much....Seeing things or plain out not paying attention to something.
So the config code is right...512 onboard and there is 512 MB in the slot.
Which leaves the question what is the -G is in the model number.
NO GPS or WWAN or anything other feature I can see.
Any hoot....thank you all for your repsonse in sorting this out.
