    Hi Group,

I've got a CF-29 that I would like to upgrade with a newer and larger hard drive. I've read some posts about the Hitachi and would like to use this brand. What RPM, ATA type, size(GB) will the CF-29 support?

    Thanks,
    Frank

I have used the Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 100GB 7200rpm and it worked like a charm. Mine uses SATA, I don't know what connector yours uses.

    Outrigger,

You've got an CF-29 that supports SATA? I thought they were to old for that.

No, mine is the CF-30 that I thought was PATA, but upon replacing the HDD, I found it was in fact SATA.

I have a 160GB drive in my 28 so I would think for sure a 29 could at least accept as much!

I know mine is PATA so I thought you might have had a newer model. I want to use 7200 rpm if possible but my current hard drive is ATA-6. Are there any 7200 RPM ATA-6 drives?

    I was looking for a larger HD for my cf-29. I located a site;
www.smartronix.com , they have 80-100-120 gig drives. This co. is a reseller of authorized Panasonic Drives. These will not void your warranty.
The person to contact is:Eric Colvin. His email and Phone no. is on their website.
The cost for each drive is as follows:
    120 gb Part No. PA038HD01-07-001 $ 746.25
    100 gb PA038HD01-06-001 $ 660.47
    80 gb PA038HD01-05-001 $ 611.99

You will also see on their website a SOLID STATE DRIVE
You can be the only one on your block or maybe your state to own one.
All you need to do is send $ 18,000.00 and they will build one just for you,
by the way it only comes in 60gb. I hope this helps you.

The wait time for the drives is about 8 weks

swapping hard drives voids the warranty!? i've never seen a seal on a HD caddy, how would they know you had swapped it? (assuming you would put the original back in when sending it in for repair)

Remember who buys toughbooks.. government agencies. I'm sure they don't think twice about paying those prices. After all, it's not their money!
