Try removing the battery and leave the laptop unplugged for 5 minutes and try to boot it then.
-
It may just be in suspend or hibernation mode. Try holding the switch over for 2+ seconds and let us know...
Have you read the owners manual for your new laptop? It available widely for free on the Internet. -
i have the battery out now.. will try in 5. i have tryed holding the power button for 2+ sec, that did nuthing. the only lite that is on is the battery lite. nuthing else
-
ok i tryed the battery out for more than 5 mins, put back in tryed to turn on get nuthing..
-
Maybe.
1. Remove battery.
2. Remove power cord.
3. Hold power switch on for 10-30 seconds. ****do this several times****
Try it with power supply only. What happens?
When turning it on....you may have to hold the switch a second or possibly two. Watch the green lights by the touchpad.
What is the full model number, type of battery and brand/voltage of power supply? Should be 15.6 volts, yellow tip on power cord.
Jeff -
model# cf-29LTQGZBM. battery is a panasonic model# CF-VZSU29A. power supply only gets nuthing. yes it has a yellow tip. ther are no lites at all when battery is out.tryed all that still nuthing..
-
Bad power supply and low battery??
What color is the battery light?? -
-
Not that I can find in this thread. I think you're thinking of the other dead cf29 thread.
-
the battery lite is steady red
-
You may want to let it sit and charge overnight...
shouldnt it still turn on with out the battery??
-
Yes.. It should but I have seen a few weird things with several different types of laptops. Was the laptop plugged in when it died?
I have seen laptops go into suspend or hibernation and then have the battery die or be removed and it really screws up the whole system. Just try charging the battery overnight to see if it will charge up and try again in the morning. -
yes it was pluged in when it died.i tested the adapter it test out at 15.9 v. also tested battery it tested at 11.9v.
-
That remind me at the one i had with a blown fuse on the mobo
see http://forum.notebookreview.com/panasonic/390897-cf-29l-wont-run-battery-power-2.html#post5805169 -
well it charged all nite. battery lite is green now but still wont turn on.
-
You might have to start checking the battery connection by taking off the back plate. Maybe a bad fuse...
-
Pull all the drives and memory chip. See if it boots to the bios. I have seen a bad drive or memory chip prevent a computer from booting.
-
Yup... Screwy RAM will certainly do this... Maybe even the wifi card.
It's worth a shot. -
Ram defintely. Wifi, i dunno. I've replaced a lot of shot wifi cards, but i've never come across one that prevented the computer from booting. No matter how damaged they were. Unless its a thinkpad, but those are notorious about their wifi cards.
-
pulled battery out with cord only, get no lites no noise no nuthing... left battery out pulled hdd and still get nuthing to happen. where would i find the fuses that you are talking about as i am a tard when it comes to this stuff.
-
i have talked w the person i bought this from and they tell me there are no fuses in this unit .. is this possible?
-
Recommend removing the memory. On the bottom there is a square panel with speaker in the middle. Take out the 4 screws at the corners, lift up but don't need to unplug the speaker wires. Push outward on clips at each side of the memory stick, tilt up at the top about 20 degrees, then carefully remove it. Can replace cover or just tack in with 1 screw. Try to boot up without the memory installed.
-
pulled hdd and ram and retryd still get nuthing. guess its JUNK!!!
-
If you have the skills its an easy fix, but you have to unmount the mobo completely -
Actually I'd ask for a refund or exchange. -
thanks for all the help. i am sending it back for them to find. i am handy but the warrenty is there just for this problem. i just thought that if it was an easy fix i would have it sooner
-
UPDATE: well i sent it back the the seller and they cound not find out what was wrong with it, so they sent me anther one to replace. i got it today had it on for 20 mins and SLAM !!!! its crashed. now its flashing between 3 screens, windows start up,panasonic, and a blue screen that flashes to fast to read. i called the seller they are telling me its the hard drive that they are using is too big. it has a 500 in it. has anyone had this problem?? how to fix?
-
That should fix the issue. -
-
Google is your friend in this.
https://www.google.com/search?q=how...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
If you don't know how to follow any of these links and instructions, then it would be best to call a friend or relative that is a little more experienced with computers to give you a hand.
Also, repartitioning may not fix it. You may have to repartition AND reinstall the OS to get it working.
You have a great durable machine that is not notorious for having so many issues. I suspect the person you are purchasing these from is a little to inexperienced to be refurbishing and reselling toughbooks to begin with. Just my 2 cents. -
Just pull EASEUS partition master off the web and use that. works fine in me cf-29 and it did wonders for the old cf-27 (RIP).
Doobi: That depends on the machine. Me CF-27 (W2k SP4) didn't need a reinstall, but me CF-28 (XP SP3) did. Never tried a big enough drive to make me CF-29 bugger itself though. -

A company I dealt with a while back had caddy and drive (500). Well I ordered one but before they shipped they pulled the ad for 500 and used a 320. Too many issues(BSOD) with 500. They reduced the price of course. This was the Sata pata conversion by the way.(or was it pata sata
)
FWIW
Jeff....suspecting the drive..... -
Those pata to sata adapters are great IF you get a good one. Quality control sux and you buy 3 to find 1 good one.
I bet that's what's in it. The problems sound the same as when I was tinkering with those adapters. I was using a 120 gb drive, so I know size wasn't the problem for me. I put a 320 gb sata drive in a sata to ide caddy for the optical drive and it has never had a bit of problems in my cf51.
The same drive would not work with one of those hard drive adapters (I have 3 at the moment) in any of my cf 29's cf 50's or cf 51. -
I also do have this kind of adapter but I never use it on IDE drive to permanently installed on any toughbook that has an IDE type drive. Here is my observation on it. I only use this adapter on cloning the sata hdd coz I have an ide external hhd adapter and its perfect for it and I don't need to buy a separate SATA external adapter or enclosure to do job.
1.0 The slight movement between the connector looses its integrity and can reboot your system without a warning.
2.0 Its to tight on the caddy and it has almost no absortion on the hdd and an slight impact like on transporting the unit(vibration) can coz BSOD.
3.0 Since the first time this adapter show up on this forum. I have a recommendation to re- layout the two connector on the same side of the adapter to have enough cushion on the caddy and I think one of our member done that.
ohlip -
well i finaly got the smaller hard drive and put it in. it worked for about 3 hrs then as soon as i got my tech programs installed it crashed again. this time it gets all the way to the desktop and then it crashs. i have got into the task mngr and the CPU is at 100%, all being used by iexplorer.exe. any ideas on the problem now??
-
Do a virus scan of all your tech programs before you install them.
-
they are all from legitimate companys that do this all the time. so i dont think that a virus is the problem, but?
-
-
well i took it and had windows reloaded , that seems to have fixed it but i dont have any sound now. anyone know how to fix?
-
-
This site is very good for drivers. A little easier to use than the panny site Toughbook CF-29 Drivers
-
I came across this the other day. Take a peek. This was for CF-30. These drivers are NOT for your model.
If you have a properly set up unit..the drivers will be found in c:\util or \util2 on your machine as the author states.
The two times I had sound problems I used factory restore cd and the sound came on like magic. Both CF-29 Mark 4 and 5.
