Hey guys is the latch that closes the LCD on your CF-29's loose? Mine seems like has some play and when the LCD is closed. I would think it would close and lock into place, no? When I am driving it rattles and driving me crazy  ! Anybody have any mods to make the LCD close tight like the doors do on the sides and back?

I ordered a new latch and spring, and also ordered new foams that go by the palm rest thinking between the parts hopefully will close TIGHT! I am so anal about things like this, call me crazy....Any thoughts....

They are ALWAYS loose... All the 29's I've seen are a little loose... not tight at all like the CF-30's are...

So I ordered the parts for nothing? Waste of 60 bucks I guess....

does it latch at all? If not did you get the spring inserted into the part of the front cabinet that it slides into to pull it back towards the laptop?

Ok dont laugh but I just found some packing stuff in my office, you know the popcorn, and shrinked it and cut it and now when I close the lid it crushes it down and LOCKS TIGHT! So tight you need to really push to open the latch now....Quick fix for now, but I got new foam coming from Heartland tomorrow....So crazy I know....

A piece of neoprene cut from a mouse pad should work nicely.

ok.....Update....Ordered a new Latch and foam inserts from Heartland and now the lid closed MUCH tighter and very little rattle....I guess the latch spring gets loose and the foam inserts wear down.....

Or you can tighten the hinges with a 7mm wrench... That helps! A LOT! Plus you can either add foam to the top or bottom of the foam holes... Depending on how stock you want it to look.

    Just a thought...

My CF-29 also rattled and I diagnosed it as the two rubber bumpers in the keyboard panel aren't tall enough to adequately engage the two protrusions on the LCD frame. The result is the latch assembly rattles when the lid is closed and the mount is tilted in a specific position. My solution was to insert two additional foam rubber disks I punched out with a single hole punch. The foam I had available was coated with an adhesive so after removing the backing, the two disks fit nicely and now the laptop lid closes firmly but still easily opens but best of all, no rattles. If you need some of this material, let me know. oclgroup

Wow, I must have the only CF29 on earth that doesn't rattle! My 28 would drive me nuts when I was driving. So far, the 29 closes TIGHT, and hasn't made a peep.

When mine comes in the mail, I will have a solution if it rattles. Think I'm gonna like this section of the forums.
