HI, I have just found a few MK-4's (5KKSA) CF-29'S that the bios shows 1.6ghz and the system properties shows 256mhz. The computer will at that time have hulu playing and will have lines in the video and it is running slow after I turn off the video player and try to do something else. Any Idea's>

    Thanks Dale z

Are you sure the 256 is the clock speed and not the amount of ram (they are side by side in the info panel)

With 256 of ram it will be slow !

    Insufficient information here.

Please post the entire Model Number; such as CF-29Lxxxxxx.

That is the way Centrino works, it is the power management system that lowers the cpu speed.

You can set the laptop for best performance in the advanced tab.

Do a google search for Intel power management vs windows Xp power management. I don't have any exact links anymore. I read an article by an Intel engineer on how Microsoft didn't really trust Intel to do power management correctly and ignored what Intel told them. Windows power management and Intel's built into the cpu power management don't always play well together.
He suggested that you NEVER use the laptop power profile. He said use desktop or always on. Laptop apparently continually slows the cpu down the longer you have it running.

O.K. I'll jump in here. Be sure to check thermal pads as part of your diagnosis.

    Good luck.

If you have installed all the optional software you have installed cpupower
    Start/All programs/Panasonic/CPU Idle Setting
    Check Battery -Windows standard
