I bought a few Toughbooks that used to belong to the San Antonio PD... They are marked that way on the Configurator... But they will not load with Recovery Disks! I have purchased from all sorts of police departments from around the country and have NEVER had this issue.
One of them is a CF-29EWPNZBM and the other is a CF-29ETPGZBM... The only difference between the two really is the Security screws on the first one. They drill one hole in the hard drive port cover release switch and screw in a Torx screw. (BIG security there!) and they also add Torx screws on the hinges so that nobody can ever get at the hard drive!
Has anyone had this happen to them? I have never had my Recovery Disks fail me. I REALLY do not want to add XP Pro by the old method.... It's a pain loading all the drivers....

I would just load the drivers... Also don't forget to post this over on my forums too... Maybe you might get a response faster there...

There was a different restore disk set for this model
The normal mk-2 restore disk series DFQX3783LA that seems to work on most, is not correct for this model
It has a different DFQX# and those are the disk’s you need

Cool..... But I need to know if anyone else has had this issue! If so... I'll avoid PD Toughbooks in the future... If I have to load all the drivers by hand... Including the COA... I'd have to SysPrep every make and model Toughbook... I'd rather just buy a different type of Toughbook in general. These Toughbooks were in good condition overall... Just a painintheash!

Alex,
Were they PD specific? -
Don't know for sure ,but it was probably a large enough order for them to specify their own disks

Just do the restore on a valid mk2 and then swap the drive to the SAPD unit.

I have the same model no. CF-29EW... as T2G said I just clone other MK2 CF-29ET..and then slide it in to EW and so far no problem. The 29EW...has a 512Mb ram inbuilt too while the ET.. has only 256Mb ram inbuilt. FYI

Or you could just spend the $9 for a good set of Security Torx drivers at Northern Tools...LOL

If you don't have a Northern tools nearby, Auto Zone also has them for 12 bux:

I've got this set in my emergency toolkit and my regular kit; good quality, excellent price. No Polish-Engineering required.

Not that my Engineering couldn't USE a little polish from time to time...:rolleyes2: -

well that's cool i have to go to northern tool tomorrow anyway to pick up my valve spring compressor. if you think about it, what the hell is the point of putting the security torx screws on there if you can just pick up a set at autozone..... Kinda counter-productive if you ask me.

I don't have a spare 1.3, non-secure CF-29 to clone disks... I tried swapping drives and got a BSOD... That's when I decided... Just do it the god old fashioned way... Load by hand....
So I spent all day... Got them all up to snuf... Have GPS in each and am finalizing the updates on all the software... They start on eBay tomorrow with a 10-day auction.... I also have a CF-18 Digitizer.. The perfect looking one, that I am putting up too... Of course I added GPS to that too.
Then I have a 1.6 I still need to work on to get the GPS and touchscreen working... And then another 1.2GHz that I need to do my thing on....
All I need????? SALES! -
Don't forget to post on my forums with the ones you have for sale Rick!
